New Jerseys tax climate for businesses is once
again the worst in the nation, a report released Tuesday
found.
The Tax Foundation study said the Garden State is
hamstrung by high property taxes (50th), a high sales
tax (48th), a high income tax (48th) and a high corporate
tax (41st), enabling it to outdistance New York, Califor-
nia and Minnesota for the dubious distinction.
I still think its a strain on employers and whether or
not theyre going to be able to stay in New Jersey and
create more jobs, said Cristina Amyot, president and
chief executive officer of Enform HR, a human re-
sources consulting firm based in Middletown.
The Tax Foundation is a Washington, D.C., research
group that lobbies for low taxes.
Its results amounted to a dog-bites-man story; New
Jerseys business tax climate ranked 50th last year, too.

The news came in a cryptic message, shared
by Harvey Cedars police on Oct. 30, 2012, the
day after Sandy hit the Shore. The Shack was
gone as of 7 a.m., it read.
The weirdly beloved building located on Ce-
dar Bonnet Island had served as a homecoming
beacon for thousands of locals and tourists who
spotted its ramshackle, weatherbeaten frame
on the side of the Route 72 Causeway as they
headed for Long Beach Island.
But like many beloved symbols of the Shore,
the old duck-hunting cabin did not survive
Sandys onslaught. The shack is gone, but al-
ways in our hearts! wrote Lansdale, Pennsylva-
nia, resident Deborah Ditmars on the Save Our
Shack on LBI Facebook page.

TRENTON Two years since superstorm
Sandy struck, New Jerseyans are less satisfied
than they were a year ago about the states re-
covery efforts.
At the same time, though, theyre feeling a bit
better about things than they were in the spring,
according to results of the latest Monmouth Uni-
versity/Asbury Park Press Poll.
Fifty-four percent say theyre very or some-
what satisfied, better than the 48 percent mea-
sured in April but down noticeably from the 76
percent who said they were satisfied last Sep-
tember, as the storms first anniversary ap-
proached.
It really does seem like were stuck in neu-
tral here as far as the states concerned, said
Monmouth University Polling Institute director
Patrick Murray. Theres been some rebuilding,
but a lot of people expected that more people
would be back in their homes by now.
