Invisible Children
Tuesday, April 9, 9:50-11:05am
Room 401
Can a story change the world? In the spring of
2003, three young Americans traveled to Africa
in search of such a story. What they
found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired
them. A story where children are the weapons
and the victims. The “Invisible Children:
Rough Cut” film exposes the effects of a 20-
year-long war on the children of Northern
Uganda, children who live in fear of abduction
by rebel soldiers and are being forced to fight
as part of a violent army. The documentary is
fast paced is truly unique.

Bring your classes to watch a short version of

the film and get to talk to some of the
representatives from the organization that
developed as a response.

Courtyard Peace Poems

Wednesday, April 10, 11am- 1pm
Flag Courtyard

This past month marked the fifth anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. The war is a stark reminder
of our great need for finding nonviolent means to resolve minor and major problems. Service for
Peace, a student organization on campus, invites everyone to come and reflect on the need for peace
in ourselves and the world around us through the creation of “poetic peace lines” on cloths and
stones. These lines will be compiled and turned into a cento, a patchwork poem.
Open Mic Peace Poetry Slam
Friday, April 11, 6-9pm

Poets from the South Dade Connections will be on
campus to start us off on a night of poetic expressions
for peace!

The South Dade Connection is a group of Spoken

Word Artists and motivational speakers who have
been leaving their mark all over South Florida. All
natives of Miami, they vary in age and background
which influences their differences in style. Yet they
band together with a common purpose to insight; to
give insight to today's youth and potentially alter
mindsets of negatives to positives. Imagine if you can
a kingdom with more then one king. A place where
poetry is seen as the potential language, bringing
thoughts and emotions to life. There you have The
South Dade Connection, always striving towards
higher ground desiring to leave no one behind
untouched.

Come and have a good time of poetry readings and

sharing. Bring yourself and your students and share is
