Maria set a goal to save P5,000 by the end of the semester through strategies like bringing packed lunches and limiting dinner costs. Over 8 weeks she tracked her expenses and savings. While she saved P724 in the first week, her savings decreased in subsequent weeks as taxi costs increased and she did not consistently follow her strategies. By week 8 she had improved and saved P462, but had not reached her overall goal, realizing she still spends lavishly and needs to better manage her allowance.

I. Topic Changing A Behavior: Spending Less & Saving More
II. Goals and Strategies Goal: Save at least P5,000 by the end of the 1st semester. Strategies: 1) Bring packed lunch instead of buying meals. 2) Spend only when I stay late in school. Dinner must cost at most P150.
IV. Discussion of Results Every week I am given P1,600 to P2,000. My expenses per day varies in a way that sometimes I get free rides from our driver, and sometimes when our drivers not available, I have to ride cabs, thus, adding more to my expenditures. Also, there are times when I stay late in school (because of organizations and whatnot) and so I am forced to spend for dinner. In the first week, I was able to save P724. I was able to do this because the idea of saving money was new to me and I can say that I was very enthusiastic about it. However, notice that the first thing I bought that week was my lunch. Notice also that one of my strategies include bringing packed lunch instead of buying one. I think thats because I had P2,000 on my hands, meaning, I knew that I had a lot of money and I thought that buying a single meal costing around P70 wouldnt make much effect anyway. The weeks after that (except week 3), the amount I saved per week became lower and lower to the point that I was only able to save P6. This is because in these weeks, our driver wasnt available so I was forced to ride cabs which added greatly to my expenses list. Also, despite knowing I had more expenses for those weeks, I still did not follow any of my strategies which were to bring packed lunch and spend at most P150 for dinner. This bad habit continued on until week 7. Fortunately, in week 8 I spent lesser compared to the past weeks so I was able to save P462. However, I think that I was also able to save that much amount thanks to the holidays and suspended classes that week.
Therefore, I can say that I have not totally changed yet how I handle my allowance. I still spend lavishly, although not as lavishly as before, but its still not enough for me to reach my goal of saving at least P5,000 in one semester.
