1) 46 out of 56 grade 9 students struggled with solving quadratic equations using the completing the square method based on their first periodic exam results.
2) The researcher conducted interviews which found the main causes were negative attitudes, lack of effort, inability to focus on paper activities, lack of parent follow up, and lack of multimedia materials.
3) The researcher proposed an alternative "Computer Mediated Strategic Intervention Material" which presents the standard intervention material in a PowerPoint uploaded to the researcher's Facebook account for students to access. This aims to improve student understanding of completing the square method through an engaging online learning by doing approach.

DEVELOPING MASTERY IN SOLVING QUADRATIC EQUATION USING THE COMPUTER-
MEDIATED STRATEGIC INTERVENTION MATERIAL (SIM)
I. SITUATION There are 56 students in Mathematics 9 Gold and 10 of them were not able to master the skill in solving quadratic equation using completing the square method.
II. PROBLEM In Mathematics 9, after the First Periodical Examination, 46 out of 56 students had the difficulty in using completing the square method in solving the root of the quadratic equation. In order to find out the reasons for non -mastery of the said lesson, the researcher conducted an interview to the students involved in the study. From the interview, the poor performance was attributed to the following: a. Negative attitude towards the subject b. Lack of effort in solving problems c. Lack of ability to concentrate in accomplishing paper based activity d. Lack of parents follow up e. Lack of multimedia material
III. ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION The intervention is herein referred to as Computer Mediated Strategic Intervention Material. Just like the traditional Strategic Intervention Material, it consists of Title, Guide Card, Learning Objectives, Introduction, Examples, Activity Card, Assessment card, Enrichment Card, Key to Correction and Reference Card. This intervention however is presented in Microsoft Power Point Presentation and is uploaded in the researchers Facebook/ Quipper School account created for the students needing remediation. The alternative solution is based on the theory of John Dewey, LEARNING BY DOING which according to one of its three assumptions states that people learn best when they are personally involved in the learning experience. Parallel to this, the researcher believes that the interest and academic performance of the learners improve when they are given activities that give them the opportunity to apply the concepts learned.
IV. A. OBJECTIVES The purpose of conducting the study is to improve the students ability to solve quadratic equation using completing the square method in finding a. the roots of the equation, and b. the number to be added to both sides of the equation in order to make the equation a perfect square trinomial.
IV. B. SUBJECT OF THE STUDY The 46 students out of 56 who got wrong responses in finding the root of the equation using completing the square method will be the subjects of this action research.
