GUIDELINES ON YOUR SIP REPORT

Write a report between 3000 4000 words (5-8 pages) based on the given format
detailed below.
FORMAT OF SIP REPORT:
Your report should contain the following in this order:
COVER PAGE
TABLE OF CONTENTS
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
1. INTRODUCTION
This section comprises:
a short description of the company
information on the companys services, products and designs
2. WORK IN THE COMPANY
This section should form the main part of your report. It comprises of two main
sections:
2.1 The Work Environment
In this section:
write a description of the work environment, its organisational structure
and employees
write a description of the nature of the business (include the main
services and/or products)
2.2 Job Description
In this section:
give a technical description of your job (tasks) with the company
describe the methods and techniques used in carrying out your duties
describe the types of equipment or facilities used
describe the safety aspects of your tasks
relate any problems or difculties you have encountered and what you
did to solve them (the problems may be work- or people-related)
include any relevant fow charts, drawings and diagrams at the
appropriate sections of your report and make references or inferences, as
you have been taught in Communication Skills.
3. ANALYSIS OF THE SIP EXPERIENCE
In this section:
discuss the purpose of your training programme
discuss the companys expectation of you
discuss the benefts you have received from this SIP
discuss the difculties encountered
discuss your own expectations of this SIP
leave out the project content
4. CONCLUSION
Comment on the relevance of your training to your course of study
Have expectations (the companys as well as your own) been fulflled?
Analyse and provide an explanation for your answer.
5. RECOMMENDATIONS
Make recommendations on the following:
improvements to your work
improvements to the training programme in order to enhance learning for
other student.

SIP REPORT: Assessment criteria
Your written report will be assessed based on the following criteria:
Language (5%)
Content: Quality of Observations (10%)
Content: Quality of Analysis & Recommendations (10%)
Overall Organisation, logic and presentation (5%)
LANGUAGE:
A) Language used for Section 3 (Analysis of the SIP experience):
Since this is a personal account of:
- what you did
- what was expected of you
- what you expected from the company you worked for
- the benefts you received
- the difculties you may have encountered,
it is all right to be personal and to use I in the introduction/analysis
/conclusion and recommendations section of your report.
B) Language used for the rest of the Written Report:
Since these sections contain more technical information, you should avoid the
use of personal pronouns I and we and use the passive if necessary to be
objective.
Your report should not be written in the form of brief notes. It should be in continuous
prose using such techniques for layout as tables, bullets, fow-charts, etc. where
appropriate. Pay particular attention to tenses - think carefully about whether
something that happened in the past or not.
