PRELUDE Unmeasured Prelude in d Louis Couperin

WELCOME

INVOCATION

In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

LITANY OF THE SAINTS (ELW 237) (announce page)

Let us remember all the beloved souls and saints before God, with thanksgiving.

The congregation may kneel.

A moment of silence is observed.

REMEMBRANCE OF SOULS AND SAINTS

We praise and bless you, O Holy Trinity. You have taught us that you love every being you have
made, and you have established the Church, this ageless communion of saints, as a sign of your
love for all. We thank you for gathering those who faithfully waited in hope for the redemption
you promised, and now for adding us who celebrate the love of your Christ for the redemption of
the world. Prepare a place for us among those who are already with you. Help us remember
them as an encouragement to saintly living, exciting us to love, in anticipation of an eternal
reunion.

We remember especially those saints and souls in and close to our community who have died this
year:

As each name is read, the bell tolls and a candle is lit.

Calvin Lewis Thomas, Charlotte Jolly, Ruth Myers, Susan Cloud

An extra moment of silence is observed

Christ says, Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart,
And you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
And you will find rest for your souls.

Please stand and sing:

CANTICLE OF PRAISE

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Let us pray.
Almighty God, you have knit your people together in one communion in the mystical body of your
Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Grant us grace to follow your blessed saints in lives of faith and
commitment, and to know the inexpressible joys you have prepared for those who love you,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and forever.
Amen.

Please be seated

A MESSAGE FOR OUR CHILDREN

FIRST READING: Revelation 7:917

9
After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation,
from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed
in white, with palm branches in their hands.
10
They cried out in a loud voice, saying,
"Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!"

11
And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures,
and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,
12
singing,
"Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and might
be to our God forever and ever! Amen."

13
Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, robed in white, and where have
they come from?"
14
I said to him, "Sir, you are the one that knows." Then he said to me, "These
are they who have come out of the great ordeal ;they have washed their robes and made them white
in the blood of the Lamb.

15
For this reason they are before the throne of God,
and worship him day and night within his temple,
and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.

16
They will hunger no more, and thirst no more;
the sun will not strike them,
nor any scorching heat;

17
for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd,
and he will guide them to springs of the water of life,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

PSALM: Psalm 34:110, 22

Refrain:

Tone:

I will bless the LORD
|
at all times;
the praise of God shall ever be
|
in my mouth.
2
I will glory
|
in the LORD;
let the lowly hear
|
and rejoice. R

3
Proclaim with me the greatness
|
of the LORD;
let us exalt God's
|
name together.
4
I sought the LORD, who
|
answered me
and delivered me from
|
all my terrors.
5
Look upon the LORD
|
and be radiant,
and let not your faces
|
be ashamed.
6
I called in my affliction, and
|
the LORD heard me
and saved me from
|
all my troubles. R

7
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who
|
fear the LORD
and de-
|
livers them.
8
Taste and see that the
|
LORD is good;
happy are they who take ref-
|
uge in God!
9
Fear the LORD, you saints
|
of the LORD,
for those who fear the
|
LORD lack nothing.
10
The lions are in want and
|
suffer hunger,
but those who seek the LORD lack nothing
|
that is good.
22
O LORD, you redeem the life
|
of your servants,
and those who put their trust in you will
|
not be punished. R

SECOND READING: 1 John 3:13

See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what
we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
2
Beloved, we are
God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he
is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is.
3
And all who have this hope in him
purify themselves, just as he is pure.

The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Please stand for the reading of the gospel.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION AND VERSE

Verse: They are before the / throne of God,*
And the one who is seated at the throne will / shelter them.

GOSPEL: Matthew 5:1-12

The holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew.
Glory to you, O Lord.

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to
him.
2
Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

3
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5
"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7
"Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

8
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

10
"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom
of heaven.

11
"Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil
against you falsely on my account
12
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in
the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
The gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
Please be seated

HYMN OF THE DAY: Blest Are They (ELW 728)

AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM

The presiding minister addresses the assembly with these or similar words.
Dear friends, we give thanks for the gift of baptism and for Carol and Bradley, Amber and
Stephen, Jill, Sean and Adam, one with us in the body of Christ, who are making public
affirmation of their baptism.

A sponsor presents each person making affirmation.

I present ______ who desire to make public affirmation of their baptism.

Let us pray.
Merciful God, we thank you for Carol and Bradley, Amber and Stephen, Jill, Sean and Adam,
whom you have made your own by water and the Word in baptism. You have called them to
yourself, enlightened them with the gifts of your Spirit, and nourished them in the community of
faith. Uphold your servants in the gifts and promises of baptism, and unite the hearts of all whom
you have brought to new birth. We ask this in the name of Christ.
Amen.

PROFESSION OF FAITH

I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church.

Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God?
I renounce them.

Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God?
I renounce them.

Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God?
I renounce them.

Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is
seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The presiding minister addresses those making public affirmation of baptism.
Carol and Bradley, Amber and Stephen, Jill, Sean and Adam, You have made public profession of
your faith. Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism:

to hear the word of God and share in the Lord's supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?

The pastor will ask each to respond in turn.
I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.

The minister addresses the assembly.
People of God, do you promise to support these sisters and brothers and pray for them in their life
in Christ?
We do, and we ask God to help and guide us.

Those making affirmation may kneel. The presiding minister prays for God's blessing.

Let us pray.
We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give us new birth, cleanse
us from sin, and raise us to eternal life.

Stir up in Carol and Bradley, Amber and Stephen, Jill, Sean and Adam the gift of your Holy Spirit:
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,

DIALOGUE

PREFACE

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

We give you thanks, Father, through Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, whom you sent in this end of
the ages to save and redeem us and to proclaim to us your will.

He is your Word, inseparable from you, through whom you created all things, and in whom you
take delight. He is your Word, sent from heaven to a virgin's womb. He there took on our nature
and our lot and was shown forth as your Son, born of the Holy Spirit and of the virgin Mary.
He, our Lord Jesus, fulfilled all your will and won for you a holy people; he stretched out his hands
in suffering in order to free from suffering those who trust you.

He is the one who, handed over to a death he freely accepted, in order to destroy death, to break the
bonds of the evil one, to crush hell underfoot, to give light to the righteous, to establish his
covenant, and to show forth the resurrection, taking bread and giving thanks to you, said:

Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

In the same way he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

Remembering, then, his death and resurrection, we take this bread and cup, giving you thanks that
you have made us worthy to stand before you and to serve you as your priestly people.

Send your Spirit upon these gifts of your church; gather into one all who share this bread and wine;
fill us with your Holy Spirit to establish our faith in truth, that we may praise and glorify you
through your Son Jesus Christ; through whom all glory and honor are yours, almighty Father,
with the Holy Spirit, in your holy church, both now and forever.
Amen.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

O God, the host at every meal, at this table you spread out a feast for all peoples, the bread of life
and the cup of salvation. Send us from this banquet to invite others into these good things, to let
justice roll down like waters, and to care for the least of our sisters and brothers; through Jesus
Christ, our Sovereign and our Savior.
Amen.

SENDING OF COMMUNION

Gracious God, you took the form of a servant, offering yourself as food, comfort, and strength
to a sick and hurting world. Anoint with a servant heart those who take your word and sacrament
to our sisters and brothers in their homes/in prisons/in hospitals. Grant grace, mercy, healing, and
hope to those who feast on your body and blood and receive your words of new life. May we all
recognize that we have a place and a home in the body of our Lord Jesus Christ.
