THE SANDERSTEAD LITERARY SOCIETY

THE SANDERSTEAD LITERARY SOCIETY INVITE YOU TO JOIN THEM FOR THEIR 74th SEASON
Meetings are held at Sanderstead United Reformed Church Hall, Sanderstead Hill, on alternate Wednesdays,
commencing promptly at 8pm followed at 9.30pm by coffee and an opportunity to meet the speakers.
Membership subscription:
Non-transferable Adult season ticket 14.00
Young People's season ticket (under 18 years of age) 7.00
Visitors welcome on payment of 3 per evening.
Young people also welcome on payment of 1.50 per evening.

Oct 22 FROM PEN TO PUBLICATION - Talk by Monica Carly
Monica lives in Sanderstead and is a member of SURC. She is an experienced author and will have
copies of her books for sale.
Nov 5 WILDLIFE OF THE SUSSEX COAST - Illustrated talk by Ian Rumley-Dawson
Ian is one of our very popular speakers who returns tonight with more stunning photography of his
local area. NB: this meeting will be held in the Church.
Nov 19 MY INVOLVEMENT IN THE FILMING OF WAR HORSE -Illustrated talk by Andy Robertshaw
Andy is an expert on WWI which started 100 years' ago in 1914.
Dec 3 WHAT THE VICTORIANS DID FOR US - Illustrated talk by Ian Bevan
The Victorians made many inventions, some of which are still in use today.
Dec 17 THE WANDLE BELL RINGERS - Conductor Sandra Winter
Who can forget the wonderful evening that we enjoyed on the Ringer's last visit? This will be a varied
Christmas themed evening.

Jan 7 IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF DARWIN - Illustrated talk by Karen Soreson
The New Year begins with a trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands without leaving our
comfortable hall in mid-winter.
Jan 21 RNLI (Our Charity Evening) - Illustrated talk by Colin Brown
Colin is the RNLI's Education Presenter who will tell us about the vital work carried out by all the
volunteers around our coasts. There will be a retiring collection.
Feb 4 MONSERRAT - SURVIVING THE VOLCANO - Illustrated talk by David Edwards
David was Ranger at the Grand Canyon USA and we look forward to another of his talks.
Feb 18 MY GRANDMOTHER WAS A SUFFRAGETTE -Illustrated talk by Eleanor Redshaw
Eleanor will also be bringing along some articles that belonged to her Grandmother.
Mar 4 A POLICEMAN'S LOT CAN BE QUITE AN INTERESTING ONE -Illustrated talk by Neil Sadler
Neil is a retired policeman. No doubt we will be quite surprised to hear what it is like from "inside".
Mar 18 BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE HOUSE OF COMMONS - Talk by Stella Whitelaw
Stella ran the Parliamentary Press Gallery for journalists.
As this talk is the final evening of the season we finish with our usual short AGM
