Celebrate America Recyles Day

Have your children outgrown their bikes?
Do you have old or broken bicycles you
don't know what to do with? Are you
cleaning out the garage to make way for
winter? Celebrate November 15th,
America Recycles Day, by recycling those
bikes!
Go Green Glencoe invites you to drop off
used bikes, in any condition or size, at the
Park District's Takiff Center between 9
a.m. and noon on Saturday, November 15th. Drop off is in the circle in the
front of the building near the preschool entrance. Your donation is
tax-deductible, and tax letters will be available.
The bikes will be donated to "Working
Bikes," a non-profit organization that
rehabs used bikes and donates them
to humanitarian organizations in Latin
America and Africa. For details go to

their website: www.workingbikes.org.

November 17th: Visoning the Future for our Great Lakes

The Great Lakes. Blue is the new Green

Lake Michigan, Glencoe's backyard, is part of the globally significant Great

Lakes watershed, which includes the St. Lawrence River and the Gulf of St.
Lawrence. The lakes connect more than 50 million people, who use these
fresh waters for drinking, recreation, commerce, and economic development.
Despite hundreds of important efforts to clean and protect the Great Lakes
and St. Lawrence River, none addresses the international waterways and their
surrounding lands comprehensively, as a whole ecosystem.
On November 17th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilmette Public Library
Auditorium(1242 Wilmette Ave, Wilmette) Pete Mulvaney, Sustainability
Specialist at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, will present some of the
challenges facing our region today and principles to guide future growth and
development. SOM's 100-year Great Lakes Vision Plan, created in
collaboration with the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, depicts

the Great Lakes Basin as one region defined by the watershed rather than by
political boundaries. It includes a vision for the region as an international park
that encompasses culturally-rich urban and rural areas.
The program is not entirely focused on environmental issues, but includes
commercial and recreational interests of the Great Lakes. If you haven't
thought about the Great Lakes lately, come to this program.
