Generation gap

Generation gap represents the difference between younger

generations and their elders. It has always been an issue that
sparkled heated debates. Any given period of time has its own
particularities and it shapes the way people perceive the world.
That's why people belonging to different generations have problems
in getting along with each other. But the gap between the generations
can be narrowed down through mutual respect and communication.
Firstly, the way an individual thinks about the world they live in is
very deep rooted and people find it difficult to accept something else
than what they know or have been taught. However, people change
in time and they can adapt to new circumstances. Thus, with some
goodwill on both sides, they can understand what it is like to be in
the others' place. They just have to show flexibility and keep an open
mind to meet halfway and be able to co-exist peacefully.
Secondly, each generation can benefit from the other's skill, abilities
and opportunities. The youth has more money and updated
knowledge they can use in bringing up their children, while the
elders have more patience and life experience to contribute as
grandparents to this effort. Like in any relationship, a certain degree
of reciprocity is necessary and its lack endangers mutual
understanding and affection.
To sum up, human relations are always complex, sometimes even
within the same generation. When different generations collide, it is
even more challenging to reach a balance. The generation gap can be
overcome, but it depends on people to make things work. If each
generation was able to respect the others, to admire and even
embrace the differences, it would certainly be easier to build a bridge
that connects people.
