Mumbai

Mumbai (/mmba/; also known as Bombay) is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is
the most populous city in India, second most populous metropolitan area in India, and the fifth most
populous city in the world, with an estimated city population of 18.4 million and metropolitan area
population of 20.7 million as of 2011.[6] Along with the urban areas, including the cities of Navi
Mumbai, Thane,Bhiwandi, Kalyan, it is one of the most populous urban regions in the world.[7] Mumbai lies
on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbour. In 2009, Mumbai was named an alpha world
city.[8] It is also the wealthiest city in India,[9] and has the highest GDP of any city inSouth, West or Central
Asia.
The seven islands that came to constitute Mumbai were home to communities of fishing colonies.[10] For
centuries, the islands were under the control of successive indigenous empires before being ceded to
the Portuguese and subsequently to the British East India Company. During the mid-18th century,
Bombay was reshaped by the Hornby Vellard project,[11][11] which undertook reclamation of the area
between the seven islands from the sea.[12] Along with construction of major roads and railways, the
reclamation project, completed in 1845,

is the seventh largest metropolis in India

and the second largest in the state of Maharashtra.


It is situated 560 metres (1,837 feet) above sea level on the Deccan plateau at the right bank of
the Mutha river.[9] Pune city is the administrative headquarters of Pune district and was once the centre of
power of the Maratha Empire.
Pune existed as a town since 847 AD. It was the first capital of the Maratha Empire under Chhatrapati
Shivaji Raje Bhosale. In the 18th century, Pune became the political centre of Indian subcontinent, as the
seat of Peshwas who were the prime ministers of the Maratha Empire.[10]

Delhi
Delhi (/dli/, Hindustani pronunciation: [ ] Dilli ), also known as the National Capital Territory of India is
the capital of India. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond
the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of
nearly 27 million residents as of 2014,[3] and is the largest urban agglomeration in India by land area and
population. It is also the 2nd most populous city on the planet.[4][5] The NCT and its urban region have
been given the special status ofNational Capital Region (NCR) under the Constitution of India's 69th

amendment act of 1991. The NCR includes the neighbouring cities


ofGurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad,Greater Faridabad called as Neharpar, Greater
Noida, Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal, Rohtak, Rewari,Baghpat, Meerut, Alwar, Bharatpur and other nearby
towns.
A union territory, the political administration of the NCT of Delhi today more closely resembles that of
a state of India, with its own legislature, high court and an executive council of ministers headed by
a Chief Minister. New Delhi is jointly administered by the federal government of India and the
local government of Delhi, and is the capital of the NCT of Delhi.

Chennai

Nadu. Located on the Coromandel Coastoff the Bay of Bengal, it is the biggest industrial and commercial
centre in South India,[6] and a major cultural, economic and educational centre. Chennai is known as the
"Detroit of India" for its automobile industry.[7]
As of 30 January 2014, the city had 8.6 million residents, making it the sixth most populous city in India.
The area of Chennai was expanded in 2011 from 176 Sq Km to 426 Sq Km. The urban agglomeration,
which comprises the city and its suburbs, is home to approximately 8.9 million, making it the fourth most
populous metropolitan area in the country and 31st largest urban area in the world.
The city is host to the third largest expatriate population in India after Mumbai and Delhi, with 35,000 in
2009 and steadily climbing to 82,790 in 2011.[8][9] Chennai is the only city in South Asia and India to figure
in the "52 places to go around the world" by The New York Times

Lucknow
Lucknow /lkna/ (Hindi: , Urdu: , Lakhna') is the capital city of the state of Uttar
Pradesh, India.[6] A major metropolitan city of India, Lucknow is the administrative headquarters of the
eponymous District and Division.[7] It is the eleventh most populous city of India and the most populous in
Uttar Pradesh, making the latter the most populous state in India. Lucknow has always been known as a
multicultural city that flourished as a North Indian cultural and artistic hub and seat of Nawab power in the
18th and 19th centuries.[8] It continues to be an important centre of government, education, commerce,
aerospace, finance, pharmaceuticals, technology, design, culture, tourism, music and poetry.[9]
The city stands at an elevation of approximately 123 metres (404 ft) above sea level and covers an area
of 2,528 square kilometres (976 sq mi).[10][11] Bounded on the east by the Barabanki District, on the west
by Unnao District, on the south by Raebareli and in the north bySitapur and Hardoi, Lucknow sits on the
northwestern shore of the Gomti River. Hindi is the main language of the city and Urdu is also widely
spoken. It is accessible from every part of India by air, rail and road.
