Did You Know?

Lonely Planet has voted coastal Wales, the greatest region on earth to visit in
2012. The opening of the Wales Coast Path in May will mean that Wales will be
one of the only countries in the world where visitors can walk the entire coastline
along way marked trails - that's 870 miles (1,400km) of stunning coastline to
explore!

Wales has more castles per square mile than any other country in the world
641 and still counting!

The impressionist collection at the National Museum Cardiff is the largest outside
Paris, and includes paintings by Renoir, Van Gogh, Manet and Monet.

Welsh is the oldest living language in Europe.

Walking all 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path involves approximately
35,000 feet of ascent and descent higher than Mount Everest (29,029 feet), but
theres no altitude sickness.

Sir Edmund Hillary and his team trained in the Snowdonia mountains before the
first successful ascent of Mt Everest.

The longest placename in Britain is found in North Wales, its

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantisiliogogogoch,
which translates as St Marys Church by the white hazel over the whirlpool and
St Tysilios church by the red cave.

BATH & STONEHENGE: 40

Stonehenge
Clouded in mystery, the ancient stone
circle of Stonehenge is an amazing
feat of engineering and the most
important prehistoric site in England,
but beyond its archaeological
significance and possible astronomical
role, Stonehenge is also a place of
spiritual importance. Early legends link
it with Merlin and King Arthur, but over
the last hundred years the midsummer
sunrise has attracted pagan groups
and followers of the Ancient Order of
Druids.

Bath
Beautiful Georgian City with someof the
finest architectural sights in Europe,
including Bath Abbey, the Royal
Crescent, the Circus, Assembly
Rooms and the famous Pulteney
Bridge. Explore the Roman Baths,
built around thermal springs, which
have been supplying water for over
2,000 years. In Roman times a
great Temple was built next to the
sacred spring - the waters were
believed to have healing properties
and attracted visitors from across
the Roman Empire.
