Aldworth House is a striking country house
situated on the southern side of Blackdown Hill

History
Aldworth was built by Sir James Knowles in 1869
for Alfred Lord Tennyson, the famous poet laurite.
The site, upon which had previously stood an
ancient smugglers Inn, was chosen by Tennyson
for its unbelievable views and seclusion. The house
remained in the Tennyson family until after the
First World War when it was sold to an Indian
Maharajah, the Gaekaar of Baroda.

The current owners bought Aldworth in 1996 and


embarked on a huge restoration project over a 3
year period when they transformed Aldworth to its
former glories.
