Essay by Kyle Mason

Sam Huntington once said, I would be hard-pressed to look back at anything that I have done in my career and not
say, I would have done that a little different because hindsight is 20/20. I have been tasked with writing a paper on
ways the University of North Dakota is a good school.
Students in North Dakota have many colleges to choose from if they wish to stay in state for their collegiate education.
Each school has its own benefits and outstanding campuses that are associated with enrollment in the schools.
Understanding that all of the schools in the state are good and none can be a Xerox of another. The University of North
Dakota has a good hockey team and should be proud of that fact. The university was founded in 1883, the
undergraduate enrollment is currently 11,724. UNDs ranking in the 2015 Best Colleges in National Universities of 168
is notable. I am very active, some say kinetic, so UNDs 275+ organizations bodes well with me on a personal level.
Students being able to connect to one another through like interests is a very hearty way to keep them in school. I have
found it most fruitful to remain involved in my three years at NDSU and I have always condoned others to get together
and share their like interests in clubs and organizations.
UND consist of six colleges: John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, College of Arts and Humanities, College
of Business and Public Administration, College of Education and Human Development, College of Engineering and
Mines, and College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines. The school also hosts a Graduate School, School of Law,
School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Division of Continuing Education.
UND offers a cumulative of 225 fields of study, 90 undergraduate majors, 73 undergraduate minors, 54 masters
programs, 27 doctoral programs, two professional programs, and a specialist diploma program in educational
leadership.
UND has an average class size of 22 students. The university, a truly outstanding impact on the economy in Grand
Forks, employs over 800 faculty members. 94% of the faculty members hold the highest degree in their field. Postgraduation 98% of the graduates are employed or continuing education, though the UND website does not list a
timeframe or if the graduates got jobs pertaining to their major, we are left to assume that they were employed
because of their degree at the university. Once again not mentioned with a timeframe graduates earn an average of
$45,275 across all fields.
The demographics of the university is 47:53 female to male ratio hosting students from 50 states and 84 counties. 77%
of students receive financial aid of some value greater than one cent. First year student live in any of 14 residence
halls and can be entertained regularly by the 21 NCAA Division I teams. What really matters is that 9 out of 10
graduates would do it all over again at UND.
