Flexguard 500 is an elastomeric epoxy based coating
provides protection and waterproofing properties to
concrete and steel structures such as reservoirs,
canals, culverts and foundations.

Fosroc offers a comprehensive range of high

performance, high quality products suitable for use within
all aspects of the concrete repair and protection industry.
In addition, the company offers a technical support
package to specifiers, end users and contractors, as well
as on-site assistance.

The material exhibits good crack-bridging qualities

even after long-term water immersion.

To achieve the correct protective properties, Flexguard

500 must be applied in a minimum total dry film
thickness (DFT) of 500 microns.

Description

Flexguard 500 is a solvent-free flexible epoxy based
coating supplied as a two-pack material in pre-weighed
quantities ready for on site mixing and use.
Flexguard 500 is available as standard in Grey.

The local Fosroc office should be consulted for

resistance to specific chemicals and conditions.

All surfaces, which are to receive the coating, must be

dry, smooth, sound and free from debris and loose
material.
Surfaces must be free from contamination such as oil,
grease, wax, dirt or any other forms of foreign matter
which might affect adhesion.
All blowholes and imperfections should Nitomortar FC*
(see separate data sheet).
Steel surfaces
All surfaces should be grit blasted to meet the
requirements of BS4232, First Quality.
The lining work should be programmed so that newly
cleaned steel is coated as soon as possible before the
formation of rust or scale.
Priming
Priming is not generally required for concrete surfaces
when using Flexguard 500 on a dry, sound, well
prepared substrate. For old concrete consult Fosroc
office. Steel substrates should be primed immediately
after preparation using Nitoprime 28* (see separate data
sheet).
Mixing
The entire contents of the hardener can should be added
to the base container and mixed thoroughly until a
uniform colour and consistency are obtained, taking
particular care to scrape the sides and bottom of the
container. It is recommended that mechanical mixing be
employed using a Jiffy mixer on a slow speed electric
drill.

Application
Storage conditions
Once mixed, Flexguard 500 should be immediately applied to
the primed surface ensuring a continuous coating of uniform
thickness is obtained.
Stiff nylon brush or short nap roller is recommended for such
application.
Faster rates of application are possible using airless spray
equipment (consult Fosroc office for details).
Cleaning
Flexguard 500 should be removed from tools and equipment
with Fosroc Solvent 102* immediately after use. Cured
material can only be removed mechanically.
Limitations
Application should not be undertaken if the temperature is

below 5 C, or is 5 C and falling, nor when the prevailing
Relative Humidity exceeds 90%.

Coverage

Store in dry conditions at temperatures between 5oC and 30oC

in the original, unopened containers. If stored at high
temperatures the shelf life may be reduced.
Precautions
Health and Safety
Flexguard 500 and Fosroc Solvent 102 should not come in
contact with skin and eyes, or be swallowed. Ensure adequate
ventilation and avoid inhalation of vapour. Some people are
sensitive to resins and solvents. Wear suitable protective
clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. Barrier creams
provide additional skin protection. Should accidental skin
contact occur, remove immediately with a resin-removing
cream, followed by soap and water. Do not use solvent. In
case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of
clean water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek
medical attention immediately do not induce vomiting.
Fire
Fosroc Solvent 102 is flammable. Keep away from sources of
ignition. No smoking. In the event of fire extinguish with C02
or foam. Do not use a water jet.

Flexguard 500 has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry

containers.
