Vice President Releases Book Walking with Lions:

Tales from a Diplomatic Past by Shri K. Natwar Singh


The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari released a book entitled
Walking with Lions : Tales from a Diplomatic Past written by Shri K.
Natwar Singh, former Union Minister for External Affairs at a function here
today.
President to Confer Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony on Sitar
Maestro Pt. Ravi Shankar
The Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony has been instituted as a part of
the commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev
Rabindranath Tagore and an announcement to this effect was made by the
then Finance Minister in his Budget Speech on 28th February, 2011.
It is an International Award with prize money of Rs. 1 Crore for promoting
values of Cultural Harmony. The Jury constituted for the selection of Tagore
Award for the year 2012 under the Chairmanship of the Prime
Minister of India selected Pandit Ravi Shankar, the Indian Sitar
Maestro, to be the first recipient of the Tagore Award in recognition of
his outstanding contribution to Cultural Harmony and Universal Values.
NSSO Report
The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme
Implementation Shri Srikant Kumar Jena has said that as per NSSO report
based on the survey conducted by it in July 2004 - June 2005, the average per
capita calorie in- take at all India level in Rural areas is 2047 Kilo Calories
as compared to 2153 Kilo Calories based on the results of similar survey
undertaken during July 1993 June 1994. This shows a drop of 106 Kilo
calories and percentage decrease of 4.9% in per capita calorie intake in rural
areas over 2004-05.
President receives a copy of book The First Woman President of
India:
Reinventing Leadership, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee received a copy of book The
First Woman President of India: Reinventing Leadership, Smt. Pratibha
Devisingh Patil today (March 20, 2013) at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The book is authored by Prof. Sunaina Singh, Vice Chancellor of the
English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad on the work and life of
Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Former President of India.

NTPC Awarded as Most Efficient Maharatna


NTPC Limited, Indias largest power utility has been awarded as the most
Efficient Maharatna-in Manufacturing for the year 2012 by a leading Stock
Magazine at the 4th DSIJ Award held in New Delhi. The Award was received by
Shri I.J. Kapoor, Director (Commercial), NTPC from Shri Ajit Singh, Union
Minister of Civil Aviation.
Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch Inaugurates Tagore Centre for Global
thought at London
Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch, Minister of Culture, Government of India
inaugurated the Tagore Centre for Global Thought at India Institute,
Kings College, London on 2nd April, 2013. Smt. Katoch is currently on a 3day visit to London.
Set up as part of the Tagore Commemoration celebrating 150th Birth
Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, this Tagore Centre will
enhance Tagore-related, academic intellectual and philosophic work globally.
The Tagore Centre is expected to become a vibrant Centre of excellence and
an intellectual hub in the field of art and culture. It will not only promote and
support research studies on Tagores thought and work in art, music,
education and traditional literature but also studies in Indian Philosophy and
cultural tradition, for which India is known worldwide.
Veteran Film Actor Pran conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for
the year 2012
Shri Pran Krishan Sikand, popularly known as Pran, the veteran film actor, has
been conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2012. He is the
44th Dada Saheb Phalke Award Winner. The award is conferred by the
Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and
development of Indian Cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash
prize of Rs.10 lakhs and a shawl. The award is given on the basis of
recommendations of a Committee of eminent persons.
Shri Pran has given sterling performances in many films along with Dilip
Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor in 1950s and 60s. Prans
performanceshave received acclaim in films like Azaad, Madhumati, Devdas,
Dil Diya Dard Liya, Ram Aur Shyam and Aadmi, Ziddi, Munimji, Amar Deep,
Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai, Aah, Chori Chori, Jagte Raho, Chhalia, Jis Desh Men
Ganga Behti Hai. The list is long.
Justice Sundaresh Menon, Chief Justice of Singapore Calls on
President

Mr. Justice Sundaresh Menon, Chief Justice of Singapore called on President


Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (April 18, 2013).
The President congratulated Justice Menon for receiving the prestigious
International Jurists Award 2013. The President stated that India and
Singapore have similar legal systems modelled on English common law.
