Wetlands Mapping

Wetlands were derived from National Wetland

Inventory maps, NRCS hydric soils maps, and
1998 digital aerial photography (DOQ's). Final
map adjustment of prime wetlands were made
in the field using a Garmin 12 XL GPS unit.
Precision of GPS points was 3.4 to 7.7 m. Roughly
50% of all prime wetland boundaries were field
surveyed, based on property access permission.

Legend

xz

Most of the accompanying field observation of rare & endangered species and exemplary natural
communities for the Meredith NRI II Project took place between Janaury 2006 and August 2007.
A few arose from previous work in Meredith, as well as from records of the NH Fish & Game Department
and the NH Natural Heritage Inventory. All historic records were checked out during the principal field
time period, and new records verified as required by agency personnel.

Rare & Endangered Species

Ashland
and Exemplary Natural
Communities
of Meredith 2005 to 2007

or

Holderness

The attached table lists the 21 exemplary natural communities found in Meredith during the
NRI Phase II Project. Each natural community is named according to the "Natural Communities of
New Hampshire" by Sperduto and Nichols (2004), as amended. An occurrence is noted as 'exemplary'
if it met one of three conditions:
1) The natural community is rare in the state
2) The natural community is currently supporting one or more rare plant or animal species that could
not occur there without it
3) The natural community is a common type but is of such high quality that it ranks among the best
example of that community in the region.
Observations of the Wildlife Action Plan (WAP) species mostly includes species that are not state
threatened (ST) or endangered (SE). ST or ST species are only shown when they were observed
outside of their breeding environment (e.g. in migration).
Observations of state listed plants and animals in or near their breeding or reproduction site are shown
as generalized circles in order to protect their integrity as well as maintain the privacy of the
landowner(s) involved. Randomized circles drawn around their exact whereabouts adhere to state
confidentiality standards, i.e. 1/2 mile for animals and 1/4 mile for plants.
