Summary
Power electronic circuits are the link between solar modules and
the utility grid or off-grid loads. The circuits must fulfill many
requirements such as high efficiency, high reliability and low costs.
The seminar gives an overview on the most commonly used power
electronic circuits. It starts with low power applications such as
active bypass diodes, maximizers and micro inverters. Then battery
charging circuits and off-grid inverters are presented. A large part
is dedicated to grid-connected applications, where single- and
three-phase inverter circuits are presented. Do's and don'ts in PV
are explained in a chapter on the interactions between modules
and inverters. The aspects of grid integration and inverter testing

Summary
Cities are complex systems, with interdependencies everywhere.
Green Cities aim for mastering these interdependencies in an
efficient way to improve the system towards more sustainability.
Renewable energies, particularly solar energy, can emerge as
driving force of added value, job creation and flourishing cities.
Green Growth is heavily depending on the development of
renewable energy sources, locally and embedded into a smart
regional / national grid. How do investments into renewables
trigger overall growth of the city economy? Best practice
solutions, trailblazers and frontrunners, found in Germany and
the U.S. will be shared in this session. Moreover first insights into
the latest research on smart cities will be given, e.g. achieved by
the global Morgenstadt research project of the well-known
Fraunhofer Research Group.

As the U.S. market continues to gain momentum and as many
utilities near their RPS goals, it is crucial to develop strategies for
the U.S. market. Presentations given in this session will cover the
top and emerging markets across the United States along with
the business models that are helping to make solar more
affordable. In this context, detailed assessments of the main
drivers within these markets e.g. solar leasing, PPAs, solar
communities, federal and state tax credits, RECs, etc. will be
shown.

Summary
Significant system price reductions have allowed PV applications
to turn into one of the most favored solutions as a means of
supplying electricity to people living in rural areas. Today minigrid or decentralized grid systems are increasingly deployed as
well. In this context, practitioners are presenting experiences
gained with such applications and varies case studies.

Summary
Current global developments are e.g. characterized by massive
overcapacity exceeding the global demand. Governments across the
globe have implemented or are considering local content
requirements. Increasing trade disputes and support schemes have
been amended at an ever increasing speed in order to keep pace
with the system costs which are considered to be at an all-time low.
Alternative energy options like shale gas have brought along a
profound impact on the local deployment of solar PV installations.
The foreseeable future of the U.S. and Californian solar market will
be discussed in a panel session by policy makers and representatives
of government agencies and industry associations.

Summary
Dropping polysilicon prices have inspired stakeholders along the
value chain in the solar industry to create new business models
designed to enable the deployment of solar PV applications on
distributed and/or utility-sale projects in the downstream sector.
Todays business models are favoring a wide range of approaches
e.g. community-based or residential-based through leasing like
residential-third-party-ownership model (TPO) along with PPAs
or the so-called solar-garden approach among others. In this
session various business models designed to facilitate financing
of solar projects will be presented.
