Technology (8 weeks)
Units of Study
Safety (1 week)
Students will understand that using a tool correctly and safely will lead to the efficient
completion of a task.

Students will know:

• the necessary tools used to complete various tasks
• proper use of tools
• safety related to those tools

Students will be able to:

• identify tools for a specific task
• demonstrate proper tool usage

Unit Assessment - By the end of this unit each student will:

• score 90% or better on the general safety test

Engineering Design Process (1 weeks)

Students will understand that using the Engineering Design Process (EDP) will lead to
the efficient completion of a task.

Students will know:

• the steps of the EDP
• meaning of the steps
• what applying the steps looks like
• how the steps link together

Students will be able to:

• follow the steps of the EDP for a specific task by building a product
• document the steps of the EDP
• demonstrate the steps of the EDP

Unit Assessment - By the end of this unit each student will:

• 80% or better on EDP written test
• 80% or better according to rubric on solving a problem using the EDP steps

Design Concepts/Good Design (8 weeks)

Students will understand good design elements, principals, and ideology.

Students will know:

June 1, 2009

• what some of the design discipline (careers) are

• approaches to design including: KISS, TIMTOWTDI (There is more than one way
to do it), Use and User-centered.
• what brainstorming is and what methods exist
• what prototyping is and why it is a needed step

Students will be able to:

• share a career related to design or other topic related to design
• share a specific design approach
• be involved in a brainstorming session

Unit Assessment - By the end of this unit each student will:

• 80% or better on a knowledge test
• 80% or better according to rubric on completing an engineering design project
that embodies good design elements

Technology (8 weeks)
Students will understand how technology changes and affects our daily lives.
Technology is taking current resources and making life better for all.

Students will know:

• Impacts of the industrial revolution
• Areas and systems of technology
• About careers in the field of industrial technology

Students will be able to:

• Complete a project related to technology history, inventing, or career
• List and explain different systems of technology
• Demonstrate how to use GPS system
• Explain careers in industrial technology

Unit Assessment - By the end of this unit each student will:

• 80% or better on a knowledge test
• 80% or better according to rubric on completing an engineering design project
that embodies good design elements
