Ive been running into Haitians quite a bit this year, 2008.

First, in February I met Elie, who is a young

Haitian-American woman (24,25). She grew up in New Jersey and now lives in Fredericksburg and is a
friend of one of my best friends, Randy Mitchell. Which kind of makes her my friend as well. Then a
couple of weeks later, I met Abema, who is a fellow VCU student. He has a thick Haitian accent. He
stutters, but he is cool. Then in March while in Northern Virginia, I met Alice Joseph, who had just come
into our North Springfield congregation after having moved from Georgia. She is a very attractive woman
in her late 40s or early 50s. Shes kind of tall, hair dyed brown. She has a beautiful voice as well, along
with a beautiful accent. Then I ran into John Pierre on Friday, September 19, who is a security guard at
Wachovia. Maybe, sometime soon I might get pictures of these people. But for now I will just put up
pictures of random Haitians. Ive met a number of Haitians in past years as well. There is one girl named
Taneesha Routier, who I attended elementary, middle, and high school with. I remember her dad as well.
During my spring break in 2001, as we were coming back from a trip to Bethel and Patterson, we stopped
at a big mall in New Jersey in a CD store I ran into a guy who saw me with a Bob Marley CD. He said that
Bob Marley was African( which I dont quite get why he said that), I just stared at him for a couple of
seconds, and then he said something something about Haiti. I asked where he was from, and he said Haiti.
The year before in the summer of 2000, while visiting New York with my brother, we went and got our
haircuts at a Haitian barbershop. January 2010: I recently found out that a guy named Chris Knox, who I
attended 7th grade with, is of Haitian background. I found him on facebook.

Migrant workers sitting outside their communal residences. A lot of hard physical labor and dirty
work they have to perform, but hey, someone has to do it.

Policeman doing his duty of protecting the citizens and keeping order. Can be a formidable job at
times. But, again, someone has to do it. And they are glad to do it.

Beautiful-looking family. This is one of the results that came up when I typed in Haitian. Now, either they live
in the U.S. or Europe, or they are living really well in Haiti.

Another beautiful family.

January 2010: Haiti has been hit by a devastating 7.0

magnitude earthquake. The biggest that has ever hit it in
200 years. 5,000 people were killed. Happily, Haiti has
received so much aid and help from countries around the
world. People are still being found that had been trapped
under buildings. A lot of food and material aid is being
transferred around.

Wow, this is quite different. Cellphone charging.

Of course, not to mention, Wyclef Jean! An incredible artist and musician, that was mostly raised in the U.S. He
was gonna run for president of Haiti but it didnt pan out.
