College Football Playoff Watch

PRESENTED BY

DIFFERENCE MAKERS

Bill Nichols
SATURDAYS NOTABLE GAMES

1. Joshua Dobbs, QB, Tennessee

Vs. 20. Missouri (+312), 6:30 p.m. (ESPN): The
sophomore has Tennessee
poised for bowl eligibility for
the first time since 2010 with
1,079 total yards 790 passing and 11 TDs in three
games. Missouri 26, Tennessee 24.

Unbeaten teams get cool response

There are two unbeaten FBS
teams. But neither stands atop the
College Football Playoff rankings.
The Florida State Seminoles
(10-0) moved to CFP No. 3, held
down by a lack of quality wins and

the comebacks theyve needed

over lesser opponents.
Still, they should be OK if they
stay undefeated through the ACC
championship. Same for No. 1Alabama and No. 2 Oregon; winning

The Dallas Morning News

out should keep them in.

Marshall (10-0), conversely,
may as well be on Mars. The Thundering Herd cant crack the Top
25, which includes seven threeloss teams. Winning out should

make them the Group of Five representative, guaranteeing a New

Years bowl and no shot at No. 1.

2. Dak Prescott, QB,

4. Mississippi State

Vs. Vanderbilt (+2912), 6:30 p.m. (SECN): He is

coming off his worst performance in the Bulldogs loss to Alabama. He threw for 290 yards
and two TDs and added 82 yards rushing, but
had three interceptions. Mississippi State 42,
Vanderbilt 17.

19. USC (+3) at 8. UCLA

7 p.m. (Ch. 8): UCLA has the better record, but USC leads the
Pac-12 South. UCLAs only playoff hope is to win out, which
would require a victory over Oregon. USCs Cody Kessler has
thrown for 771 yards and nine TDs in his last two games and 18
TDs in his last four. UCLA 34, USC 30

3. Ezekiel Elliott, RB,

6. Ohio State

The national playoff hopes have

just about vanished for Arizona
and QB Anu Solomon, but the
Wildcats still have slim hopes of a
Pac-12 championship

Vs. Indiana (+3412); 11 a.m. (BTN): With 954

yards, Elliott needs 46 more to become just
the second running back coached by Urban
Meyer to hit the 1,000-yard mark. Ohio State
49, Indiana 17.

Boston College (+1912) at 3. Florida State

2:30 p.m. (Ch. 8): The Seminoles have trailed in the second
quarter in seven of their last eight games, claiming dramatic
wins in three of their last four. BC coach Steve Addazio is
impressed with FSUs survival skills: They're an amazing football program. Fla. State 33, Boston College 20.

STATEMENT GAME
Oklahoma State (+27) at Baylor

8. Ole Miss at Arkansas (+3)

6:30 p.m. (Ch. 4) : Despite contending for the

Big 12 title and beating a team (TCU) currently
ranked above them, the Bears need help. They
also need dominance over a team with four
straight losses. Baylor 43, Oklahoma State 9.

2:30 p.m. (Ch. 11): The Razorbacks (5-5) finally parlayed a string
of heartbreaking losses into an SEC win. They are confident
and have nothing to lose as a home underdog. Ole Miss moved
up two spots to CFP No. 8 by not playing last week but desperately needs a win. Arkansas 31, Ole Miss 27.

UPSET SPECIAL

15. Arizona (+4) at 17. Utah

2:30 p.m. (ESPN): These strong, evenly matched teams have
little playoff chance. The Wildcats, coming off a 27-26 victory
over Washington, must win their final two for a remote shot of
reaching the Pac-12 title game. The Utes have five league wins
by three points or fewer. Utah 24, Arizona 23.

25. Minnesota (+1012)

at 23. Nebraska
11 a.m. (ESPN): After a 35-point loss to Wisconsin erased their slight playoff hope, the
Huskers could take out their frustrations
before the home crowd. Or they could play
like last week. Minnesota 27, Nebraska 24.

Line through Tuesday. LAST WEEK: 6-3 straight, 6-3 vs. line. SEASON: 69-39 straight, 63-45 vs. line.
