Reaction Paper: Movie entitled Babys Day Out

1. Which part in the film/movie that you have seen shows:

a.) The principles of growth and development.
ANSWER: In order to indicate which part of the movie tackled the
principles of growth and development, first we have to know what these
principles are. The following are the principles of growth and development:

Growth and development is a continuous process.

Not all parts of the body grow at the same time or at the same rate.

Each child is unique.

Growth and development occurs in a regular direction reflecting definite

and predictable patterns or trends.

A great deal of skills is learned by practice.

There is optimum time for initiation of experience or learning.

Neonatal reflexes must be lost first before development can proceed.

The entire movie (first to last scene) captured all these principles. We can
see clearly, as the baby goes on with his exciting journey (crawling by himself),
the unique characteristic of the protagonist (baby): Development, Skills, and Wit
through experience/ learning. Specific examples of G& D (showed in the movie)
of a >12 months old baby include: expressions like Boo-Boo, saying 2 words in
addition to Mama and Dada, needs help while walking, craws very well, age
appropriate toy- books with large pictures which is a favorite hobby of the child.

b.) Nursing care of the family with an infant?

ANSWER: The movie did not cover the care of the family with an infant. As
for me, the babys age/ period presented in the story is on transition from infancy
to toddler (more of a toddler, which is more than 12 months old). It didnt show
how they provided care of their baby during his infancy. It started with early
childhood stage- Toddler.

c.) Nursing care of the family with a toddler?

ANSWER: During the toddler period, the age span from 1 to 3 years and
the movie presented the whole story revolving around the protagonist named
Bink- who is a toddler. At the beginning of the story, we have seen clearly how
the mother provided care for the toddler (as well as the kidnapper took care of
the baby): changing diapers, story-telling, clothing/ playing with the child, how to
make the baby sleep, & proper feeding. During this period, children accomplish a
wide array of developmental tasks and change from largely immobile and

preverbal infants who are dependent on caregivers for the fulfillment of most
needs to walking, talking young children with a growing sense of autonomy
(independence), which was clearly seen in the movie.

2. What is the moral lesson of the story?

ANSWER: The moral lesson of the story is that, do not leave our child/
baby alone, or to other people whom we do not know better. Chances are they
might get lost or kidnapped, especially at this stage (toddler) wherein the child is
very playful and adventurous. And as for the topic, we should know better our
own child- know or gather information related to growth and development, age
appropriate toys, and above all, how can we provide them a safe environment.

3. Give the synopsis of the movie.

ANSWER: Bennington Austin "Baby Bink" Cotwell Jr. couldn't ask for
more; he has adoring (if somewhat sickly-sweet) parents, he lives in a huge
mansion, and he's just about to appear in the social pages of the paper. Three
criminals, Eddie, Norby and Veeko, pose as the photographers and kidnap him,
demanding a ransom. After the kidnapping, however, they have difficulty
controlling him. While trying to get Bink to fall asleep, Norby does so reading
Bink's book titled "Baby's Day Out", leaving him unattended. Looking through it,
Bink notices a bird on the page and then one by the open window. He follows it
out and successfully gets away from his kidnappers. And his journey alone, away
from his kidnappers started.

He crawls onto a bus, goes inside a department store and is briefly

mistaken for having escaped from the care centre, stows away in a taxi and goes
to the zoo, where he ends up inside a cage with a protective gorilla, and
eventually a construction site. The kidnappers tried their very best to re-capture
the baby, but they all failed, leaving them injured (and look foolish). In the end,
baby bink gets back home (safe and sound), and finally, with his family while and
the kidnappers was arrested by the FBI.
