DOTS IN THIS WORLD

Where am I? It is so dark and gloomy. I cannot see anything, I can barely move.
The place is so small. The space is making me claustrophobic. Wait.. I can hear
someone. They are talking about me but I cannot understand them. What are they
going to do to me? Finally, we caught another monkey for our laboratory
experimentation Good gracious! Someone help me. Please save me!
Animal testing is a procedure wherein living wild lives are being used for
scientific experimentation for new developments especially in the field of medicine
and cosmetics (Humane Society International). Often procedures can cause great
deal of physical and psychological suffering and worse; most animals are killed at the
end of the research. Common animal procedures are as follows: a) forced chemical
exposure, b) exposure to drugs, c) inflictions of wounds, burns and other injuries, d)
killing by carbon dioxide and other gruesome activities. Species like rodents (mice,
rabbits), domestic animals (dogs, cats) and non-human primates (monkeys and
chimpanzees) are deprived living their own life and bounded their freedom.
Exploitation of wildlife for scientific experimentation must be banned because it
downgrades their freedom and purpose.
Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. Practice of forced feeding, forced
inhalation, food and water deprivation and other merciless acts are commonly
subjected to animals (Humane Society International). Helpless rabbits being
incapacitated and held open their eyelids using big clips so they cannot blink away
the product for multiple days. In contrast, animal testing has contributed to many
life-saving cures and treatments. Animal testing has been the turning point of
continuous development in the field of medicine. Likewise, unknown diseases
occurred worldwide had discovered and in addition, treatments were studied and
developed through the usage of animals in experimentation (California Biomedical
Research Association).
Alternative testing method now exist that can replace the need for animals. The
use of petri dishes (glasses) can produce more relevant findings and these results can
be administered in analyzing and extracting human cells. Furthermore, in Vitro
Testing substantial results are expected. There is no adequate alternative to testing

on a living, whole body system. The complexity of the system of human beings can be
studied in cell cultures in a petri dish. Studying in petri dish is relevant however, the
chance of studying interrelated processes in nervous system, endocrine system and
whatnot is eliminated. Additionally, conditions such as blindness and high blood
pressure cannot be experimented in tissue cultures.
Animals are very different from human beings and therefore make poor test
subjects. The anatomy, cellular and metabolic processes and responses of human
beings are widely different as to what animals have and therefore animals are poor
model in comparing human beings. On the contrary, animals are appropriate
research subjects because they are similar to human beings in many ways. Moreover,
wide range of similarities between animals and human beings thus biological
conditions like illnesses can be tested through the use of animals as a variable in the
experimentation.
What happened? I am lying on a bed of roses. I cannot feel my solid body, I
think I am floating and look what I have got I have wings that are so flappy and soft
and a golden and round halo. I think I am an angel now. Oh! I remember now. I was
caught in the jungle while I was eating my precious bananas and unfortunately killed
by those scientists for the welfare of human beings. We are just animals, we cannot
fight you guys but the kingdom of animal loves you. I hope you will reciprocate the
love that we give to you.
They also feel pain, they have life. They are vulnerable and fragile and therefore
we must embrace them. They are part of the revolution of life. They are not just
animals, they also smile like us. We are all dots in this world and the only line that
will connect us is line of love and respect.
