Introduction and Citation:


This report covers the period from Sat 18-10-2014 until Fri 24-10-2014. However, it is worth
pointing out the following:
1. Fatalities of the regime, the Army of National Defense (Shabiha), Lebanese Hizbullah, Iraqi and
Iranian Militias are not included in the reported death toll.
2. These figures are not final in any way, and they are subject to continuous and periodic scrutiny
by centers activists, the data base administrators and the field documentation team.
3. Figures may differ between reports, even within the same district, and this can be referred to the
territorial audit that would reveal places of errors and faults, as well as the continuous follow up to
identify undistinguished martyrs whenever they are identified.

Martyrs of the Week:


During this period, the Violations Documentation Center in Syria managed to document (315) martyrs in all the Syrian governorates, (303) of whom were documented by names, while (12) i.e.(4 % ) of
the total number, were unidentified bodies because they had turned into carnages.
Two of them documented by photo and one of them documented by video and (9) were documented
only by witnessing.

First: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Governorates


Daraa governorate witnessed the fall of the largest number of martyrs, as the total number was (77
martyrs) i.e. (25 %), followed by Aleppo (64 martyrs) i.e. (20 %), then Damascus Suburbs (62 martyrs) followed by Idlib (38 martyrs).

Second: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Death Causes


(87) martyrs i.e. (28 %) died as a result of fire shots and sniper bullets, whereas (147) of them i.e.
(47 %) died because of air shelling and barrel bombs. Moreover, (35) martyrs i.e. (11 %) killed because of artillery shelling and mortar shelling.
VDC has also documented (27) detainees under torture in detention centers around Syria and (1) person due to starvation and siege by regime forces, in addition to one fighter due to chemical weapons
in Harasta city at Damascus Suburbs.

Third: the Distribution of Martyrs according to the Days of the Week


Tuesday 21th October 2014 witnessed the fall of the largest number of martyrs, when (88) of them
fell i.e. (28 %) of the total number. After that, Thursday 23 October 2014 witnessed the fall of (53)
martyrs i.e. (17 %) then Friday 24 October 2014 witnessed the fall of (52) martyrs.

Fourth: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Gender


The number of male adult martyrs is (228 martyrs), i.e. (72 %) of the total number, the number of
male children is (31 children), i.e. (10 %), the number of adult females is (31 martyrs), i.e. (10 %), the
number of female children is (25 martyrs) i.e. (8 %).

Fifth: the Distribution of Martyrs according to the Category (Civilian/ Noncivilian)


(215) civilian martyrs were reported i.e. (69 %) of the total number of martyrs, while only (100) fighters fell i.e. (31 % ( among them one child fighter under of eighteen age.

Sixth: Other
During this period Violations Documentation Center has documented more than (12) martyrs
at the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS/Daash) including (9) civilians, and (3)
fighters of the Free Syrian Army and other fighting factions.
