Q. 36-40 Read the following

passage carefully. Certain words in the
passage are printed in bold letters to
help you locate them easily while
answering some of these questions.
Due to robust growth in various
sectors including chemicals, food
products, textiles, garments and leather
goods the decline in Indias exports to
Germanythe largest maker for Indian
items within the European Unionhas
been reversed. According to information
provided by the German statistical
office, export from India registered a 8.5
per cent growth during the first six
months of the year. This positive growth
in export comes after a slow-down of
three years which resulted in a slide of
10 per cent during 1997 to 2000.
Remarkably the growth in exports to
Germany comes despite devaluation of
the Euro which has been giving the
jitters to exporters. Further increase in
exports is expected. According to current
estimates India would end year 2001
with a trade surplus of DM 700 million.
This is at least DM 200 million more than
the previous years level. The chemical
and food product sectors have done well
with growth rate exceeding 20 per cent.
Traditionally products like textiles,
garments and leather products account
for 50 per cent of Indias exports to
Germanyhave also shown healthy
growth. Indias exports to Germany
would reach a record level of DM 4.7
billion this year. German exports to India
are also picking up this year, Indias
imports from Germany increased by
June. The growth is mainly due to
Indias demand for hi-tech equipment
from Germany. Price competition due
to devaluation of the euro has also

helped German exporters to sell more

machine tools, electric and electronic
equipment and chemicals. India would
import German products worth DM 4
billion mark this year. IGEP estimates
in the long term, bilateral trade would
grow in a balanced pace with the
balance moving in a narrow band.
Indias exports to Germany has been
growing at a steady pace, exceeding
imports from Germany for the first time
in 2000.
