Our Philosophy at Shanti Yoga:


At Shanti Yoga, located in the heart of Maplewood the approach is simple; to make yoga accessible to every-body.
Built on this foundation, we take a down-to-earth approach that embraces the diversity within the practice and offers
classes for students new and old alike. Shanti Yoga got its start from a fundraising campaign in which the studio
made a promise of going from nothing-to-something in the most sustainable and up-cycled fashion possible.
We built Shanti (sanskrit for peace) from the ground up by a group of volunteers who donated their time. We came
together to install sustainable bamboo flooring, painted walls with leftover colors, wired lighting from demolished
properties all by ourselves and connected with the community through the free ads on Craigslist.
Health really begins with the food we eat and the environment in which we are surrounded by. Humans, just like
plants, need healthy soil in which to plant roots; that is exactly what Shanti Yoga is, a nourishing ground in which to
plant your roots. We hope that you find yourself at home with us here.
Shanti Yoga supports and encourages the growth of its students on a deep personal level through the use of asana
(posture) and pranayama (breath). Our instructors work together to create an environment to uplift, inspire and
educate their students on safe and effective ways to reduce stress, build confidence and radiate a healthy glow from
the inside out. This is a place of celebration, examination, dedication and appreciation for the true joy of Yoga. We
certainly hope that you feel at home with us in our studio. It is our highest commitment to make sure each and every
student is supported and guided in safe and effective ways throughout their practice.
The studio embraces the beauty in revealing what is already there, the light that shines within.
