Ethics and corporate responsibility

Ethics and Corporate Responsibility in the Workplace and the World Business ethics
are moral and social responsibility of those who are responsible for making decision. In
order to be a successful corporation, whether big or small success is directly linked to
the relationships that are established between, consumer, employees, managers,
shareholders, investors, suppliers etc.
Example:
Walmart, the worlds largest retailer, has gone green. Since 2005 it has worked to plan
and execute a sustainability strategy that includes using renewable energy sources,
reducing its waste, and selling sustainable products. A packaging scorecard helps
Walmarts 60,000 suppliers learn about Walmarts expectations and guides the firm in
making its purchasing decisions. The company has built energy-efficient stores and
retrofitted others, and it offers reusable shopping bags made of recycled materials.
Although Walmart doesnt disclose financial details on the green initiative, it says the
program is already saving money and resources, and it projects billions in savings over
time.
Business ethics
Business ethics are moral principles that guide the way a business behaves. The same
principles that determine an individuals actions also apply to business.
Acting in an ethical way involves distinguishing between right and wrong and then
making the right choice. It is relatively easy to identify unethical business practices.
For example, companies should not use child labour. They should not unlawfully use
copyrighted materials and processes. They should not engage in bribery.
A company must make a competitive return for its shareholders and treat its employees
fairly. A company also has wider responsibilities. It should minimize any harm to the
environment and work in ways that do not damage the communities in which it
operates. This is known as corporate social responsibility.
The ethics environment
Environmental ethics is the discipline in philosophy that studies the moral relationship
of human beings to, and also the value and moral status of, the environment and its
nonhuman contents.
It exerts influence on a large range of disciplines including environmental law,
environmental sociology, ecotheology, ecological economics, ecology and
environmental geography.
There are many ethical decisions that human beings make with respect to the
environment. For example:

Should we continue to clear cut forests for the sake of human consumption?
Why should we continue to propagate our species, and life itself?
Should we continue to make gasoline powered vehicles?
What environmental obligations do we need to keep for future generations?
Is it right for humans to knowingly cause the extinction of a species for the
convenience of humanity?
How should we best use and conserve the space environment to secure and expand
life?
Ethical decision
Ethical decision making helps people make difficult choices when faced with an ethical
dilemma, a situation in which there is no clear right or wrong answer.
Ethical decision making typically examines three perspectives: the ethic of obedience;
the ethic of care; and the ethic of reason. The ethic of obedience looks not only at the
letter of the law, but also the spirit or moral values behind it. The ethic of care engages
our emotional intelligence and empathy in making a decision from other peoples
perspectives.
The other vital ingredient for ethical decision making is the social dimension. When
faced with difficult choices, human beings tend to make better decisions when they
work these through with others who can both support the three-dimensional process and
challenge our natural biases and prejudices.
