documentingarangeofforeignfightersforseveralTVchannels.Icanunderstandwhysomewouldbe
confusedaboutISISasMuslimsareveryscepticalofwhattheyseeinthenewsmedia.Somewonderifitis
aconspiracyagainstwellintendingMuslimfighters.Icanappreciatetheirhesitancy.AsajournalistI
followthemediaverycloselyandallweneeddoislookattheawfulmediacoverageoftheGazaeventsto
knowthatsomethingisseriouslywrongwithmainstreammedia.Isthisanothercaseofsuch?

Inallhonestywithoutanyholdingbackofthetruth,theSyrianpeoplewholivedwithintheirterritoriesand
thosewholivedoutsideoftheirterritoriesabsolutelyhatedISIS.Mostofthemfeltthattheyhadmerely
tradedinatyrantinBasharAlAsadforanothertyrantinISIS.Theyfelttheyweresecondclasscitizensin
theirowncountry.MostpeopledontrealisebutISISis95%foreignfighter.Theywouldwalkthestreets
andlookdownontheaverageSyrianandmanyofthemwouldntreturnthesalaamifgreetedasthey
didntseemanyoftheSyriansasMuslims.YesitstruethatSyriansingeneralliketheircigarettes,music
videos,andotherstufftheyshouldleavealonebuttoconsiderthemnonMuslims???Thisisveryfar.Why
isitthatSyriansdontjoinISIS?JabhaIslamiyya,JabhaAnNusra,andalltheotherIslamicgroupsare
predominantlySyrianwithaminoritymixofforeignfighters.WhynotISIS?ItisbecauseISISterrorised
theindigenouspeopleandnoonewantedthemintheircountryletalonejointhem.Theirprisonswerefull
ofweakSyrianswhoranafouloftheircorruptideology.WherearethoseSyrianswhoaresupposedtobe
cheeringontheriseofISIS?Idontknowofanywhoare.

ISISfightersinSyriaarenotononesinglefrontlineagainstBasharAsadsarmyinSyria.Iknowthisisa
shocktomanywhohavefallenpreytothenasheedandheroicyoutubevideosfeaturingISISfightersbut
afterhavingspentmuchtimethroughoutthecountryIcantellyouwithcertaintythatalloftheirresources
thatwellintendingMuslimdonorshavegiventhemarebeingusedtofighttheirfellowMujaahideen.They
arenothreatatalltoAsadsforcesastheyarenotfightingthemANYWHEREinSyria.Forfearofnot
wantingtogetmyaccountclosedonFacebookIwouldshowyoupicturesofhowtheybeheadedMujaahid
fightersfromAhrarAsham,JabhaAnNusraandothergroupsfightingtheAsadregime.Howuglyisitto
seetheheadsofbeardedMuslimfightersonthefloorwithanISISfighterposingoverthemholdingaknife
andonefingerintheairasifhekilledtheseyoungmenforthesakeofAllaah.ISISfeltthatONLYthey
wereseriousaboutbringingIslamtothepeopleandnooneelsewas.Thereforetheyeagerlyspilledthe
bloodofthosewhohadfoughtnumerousbattlesagainstregimeforces.
While95%ofISISconsistsofforeignfighters,itdoesntmeanthat95%oftheforeignfightershavegoneto
ISIS.MostoftheforeignersdonotgotoISIS.Thenewsmediawantsthepeopleatlargetobelievethat
asitfitstheirnarrativethatforeignfightersareathreattotheirhomecountrynarrative.ActuallyISIS
madethingsverydifficultfortheforeignfightersinSyriaastheyunlawfullyimprisoned,killed,and
endangeredthelivesoftheSyrianpeople.ThussomeoftheSyriansbegantodislikeALLforeignfighters
duetoISISactionsastheycouldnttellwhowasandwhowasntISIS.
#3SupportoftheScholarsandPeopleofInfluence
ThereisnotONEscholarwhocameoutinsupportofISISanditsleadersclaimtokhilafah.Actuallyitis
justtheopposite,theyallcameoutinunisondenouncingtheclaimtothecaliphateinspecificandthe
movementingeneral.ISIShasbeendenouncedbyseveralShaykhswhoarerespectedbypeopleofJihad
likeShaykhAbuMuhammadAlMaqdisi,ShaykhAbdullaahALMuhaysini,andShaykhAbuQatada,notto
mentionahugerebukefromAymanZawahiriandhisdemandforthemtopackuptheiroperationinSyria
aswell.
AsmallamountofMuslimsaroundtheworldhaveanapocalypticviewofhowthingsshouldbeandISIS
seemstosuitthemjustfine.TheyfeelthatISISisonthetruthsimplyduetothefactthatthenewsmedia
andthemassesareagainstthem.Thiscaninnowaybeusedasaproof.Theworldatlargeisagainst
rapists,murderers,andthievestoo.Canwesaythattheyareonthetruthsimplybecausetheyarefiercely
opposed?
HowcouldweasMuslimsnotscornamovementthathas:
*NOSUPPORTOFTHECOMMONPEOPLEINTHEIRLOCALE
*NOSUPPORTOFTHEOTHERMUJAAHIDEENFIGHTERS
*NOSUPPORTOFASINGLEKNOWNSCHOLAR
IsitlikelyagrouplikethiscouldbringbenefittothelivesoftheMuslimstheywouldleadintheirlocalarea?
ThereforeisitlikelytheycouldbringpeaceandunificationtotheMuslimsaroundtheworld?Orisitmore
likelythattheywouldbringmoredisunity,destruction,andchaos?

Conclusion
AtotallackofwisdomfromthisgroupledbyAbuBakrBaghdadiiswhathashurtthelegitimateaspirations
oftheSyrianpeople.ForeignfightersalongwiththeirSyriancounterpartswereabigreasonforthetaking
ofhugeswathsofterritoryduringthisrevolutionandtheregimefearedthatmix.Noticethatmuchterritory
wasbeingtakeninIraqbySunniforces(falselystatedthatISISistheheadofthembutthatsanother
story!).Also,noticethatthoseadvanceshaveallbutstoppedassoonasthenewsbrokeofthisnew
Khalifah.AtbestIthinkwecanonlysaythatBaghdadisgroupissorelylackingpeopleofwisdomintheir
ranksandinnowaycanbebrandedsavioursoftheMuslimnationinanyway.
