U.T. DALLAS MUSI 2324-INTRO GUITAR CLASS
The guitar class has a twofold objective: first, the
presentation of introductory technique in order to develop
playing abilities at the beginning level on the classical
guitar, and second, the study of the guitar through its
history and varied musical culture. The first goal will be
achieved via class participation and follow-up home practice.
The second goal – requires you to attend two classical guitar
performances or events such as a master class or workshop and
then write a summary of both events in two pages, double
spaced. Reports are due by the end of the semester. The UTD
Guitar Series is our on campus guitar concert/event provider.
See the brochure for dates and full information about the
exciting guest artists and events. Reports on in-class
performances will be considered extra only. FALL FESTIVAL AT
UTD NOV. 18 & 19TH is the date for our class performance.
Participation in this event is required so please secure the
date/S. I will provide you with further details about this in
a timely fashion.

UTD - AP4345 GUITAR CLASS:
CONTINUING SECTION - FALL 2002
The continuing section of the guitar class will further
develop the skills of ensemble performance and the principle
techniques of solo guitar playing learned in the introductory
guitar class, and developed in prior semesters of study and in
the Contiunuing Guitar class. The class will thus have two
parts: the first part will present ensemble playing and
exercises for technical development, and the second part of
the class will be dedicated to solo guitar performance and
stylistic interpretation, or, from time to time the class will
hear performances by the instructor, guests who are invited to
the class, or view a video of a performer or selected topic
which will enhance the learning experience.

AP 3381 Intro Guitar, AP 4345 Continuing Guitar
April 24, 2003
The fall of 2003 at UTD will offer you the opportunity to take
the Intermediate Guitar Class. This class meets weekly at 7pm.
By taking the current section AP 3381 you are eligible to take
MUSI 3381 – Intermediate Guitar. The intro class will be
listed as MUSI 2324. UTD Guitars need to be returned to the
Visual Arts Office by the end of next week. Your deposit will
be returned. If your are enrolled in MUSI 2324 – you will have
first preference for retaining a UTD instrument in the fall.
Several of you have asked me about finding good guitars. Of
course Guitar Center and Brook Mays have instruments aplenty –
just make sure you purchase the instrument that you want –
rather than the instrument that the sales staff wants you to
buy.
If you are interested in purchasing a used instrument, feel
free to contact me. I can put you in touch with other students
who have good used instruments for sale – as they purchase a
higher level of instrument for themselves. If you would like
me to scout an instrument for you by a Spanish maker you can
equally contact me with this request. Esm4433@dcccd.edu, 972-

I hope that you have enjoyed this semester and learned plenty
of guitar and heard concerts and events which have been
interesting to you. Best wished for academic success at UTD. I
hope to see those of you who wish to pursue playing
opportunities in the Fall in Intermediate guitar at UTD. EM
DEAR AP3381 CLASS PARTICIPANT,
