1. Define NSTP
The National Service Training Program, also referred to by the acronym NSTP, is a civic
administration and defense preparedness program for Filipino tertiary education students
instituted by the Government of the Philippines on 23 January 2002 by virtue of Republic Act
9163, otherwise known as the "National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001". Under
the NSTP Program, both male and female college students of any baccalaureate degree course
or technical vocational course in public or private educational institutions are obliged to
undergo one of three program components for an academic period of two semesters. The
students, however, are free to choose which particular program component to take.
2. NSTP Program Components
a. ROTC - Reserve Officers' Training Corps
This program component is designed to provide military education and training for students to
mobilize them for national defense preparedness.
b. LTS - Literacy Training Service
This program component is designed to train students in literacy and numeracy skills to
schoolchildren and out-of-school youths.
c. CWTS - Civic Welfare Training Service
This program component is designed to provide students with activities contributory to the
general welfare and betterment of life of the members of the community especially those
developed to improve social welfare services.
3. Dimensions of Development
a. Safety and Security
- This area involves disasterpreparedness during fire, earthquake or other calamity thatneeds
immediate response from any trained civilians duringemergency situations. Basic life saving
seminar, fire drill andthe like are some of these examples.
b. Education
- This area involves enhancement of institutionalsupport materials and facilities for the
community and schoolsuch as providing materials containing basic literacy skills forpreschoolers, alternative learning system for out-of-schoolyouths and adults, mathematics and
science tutorials andextended services of skilled students.
c. Recreation
- This area involves sports fest, parlor games forstreet children and painting that enrich youths
capacities torelate with one another in the community.
d. Values Formation and Moral Recovery
- This involves thedevelopment of youth to be good leaders, responsibleindividuals imbued
with good moral values and active agent of development of the community.
e. Industry and Entrepreneurship
- This area includesprograms and activities that are vital to economic growth.CWTS students
demonstrate technical skills in communities likemeat processing, silkscreen making and how to
establish smallbusiness.

f. Care for Health


- This area aims to give knowledge onmedical-related fields and extend health services needed
in thecommunity. It includes medical services like first-aid operation,vaccination, info
dissemination, basic life saving seminars,heath / nutrition technical assistance and training of

g. Environment
- This area inculcates environmentalawareness and its contribution to health and related fields.
Itinvolves management of waste, environmental protection,dissemination and application of
technologies supportive of thecommunity needs and livelihood activities related toenvironment
and other related fields supportive of the nationalthrust. MAPA-CWTS SUPPORT AND
DELIVERY SYSTEM [SDS]COMPONENTS Since all of the SERVICE components cannot be delivered
as awhole, the MAPA-CWTS had defined three Support andDelivery Systems that harnesses
MAPAs expertise which canbe offered to the community.In line with the community service
rendered by MAPA-CWTS,studets will choose one of the three SDS which will be
pursuedduring 3rd and 4th terms.
