This Weeks Program

Martin Anderson introduced our speaker, Sheriff Geoff Dean of the Ventura County Sheriffs Office. Martin also
thanked Don Aguilar for setting up for todays presentation. Sheriff Dean gave us an overview of the Sheriffs Office
and the many aspects of its mission. Since 1873, the Sheriff's Office has honorably served Ventura County and, in
partnership with our citizenry and other public agencies, has made our county one of America's safest.
Sheriff Dean shared important information regarding the jails and their populations; recent challenges with Proposition
47; pharmaceutical crimes task force; increasing opportunities and challenges with use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
(UAVs) in search-and-rescue and suspicious device roles and recent discussions on the use of military equipment in
law enforcement. Importantly, Dean also shared fond memories of fallen Officer Eugene Kostiuchenko who was killed
by a drunk driver last month.
