complete stegomastodon skull ever found. Hear the story of the states
fossils from an expert on fossil mammals from the last 35 million years,

Mount Taylor is the second largest young volcano in New Mexico
and the highest point in western New Mexico. With Dr. Crumpler, we
will use forest roads to visit a series of outcrops that show the structure
and formation of the volcano as we drive toward the summit.
Bring your own lunch, sunscreen, and water. Wear sturdy shoes
and dress appropriately for the weather. Meet at the Museum at 8 a.m.
The Museum will provide van transportation. The day will end back
at the Museum at 5 p.m.

This exhibit shows rare satellite views of events such as dust

ason Martinez has been General Sales Manager for Cumulus


Media Albuquerque since 2013 and oversees daily sales
and management of eight local broadcast radio stations. He
coordinates internal teams from on-air staff, production staff, sales
staff, and engineers that bring Albuquerque top-of-the-line news
talk, sports and business radio, along with five music stations that
bring numerous formats from county music to adult hits radio.
Jason has over 25 years of sales and management leadership, and
has an extensive background in local marketing and advertising in
the Albuquerque market. He studied civil engineering at NMSU and
business administration at UNM.

Volunteers Prove Themselves


Amazing Once Again

t the Annual Membership Meeting of the New


Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science
Volunteer Association on September 10, 2014, 40
volunteers received Presidential Service Awards.
The Presidents Council on Service and Civic Participation
was established in 2003 to recognize the contributions of
volunteers in America. The award consists of a handsome
pin, a certificate, and a signed letter from President Obama.
Bronze Youth Awards were given to five outstanding young people who have
contributed in excess of 400 hours of service each for a total of 3,000 hours of
service to the Museum in the Naturalist Center. Recipients are: Liam, Garrett, and
Bryn Frye-Mason and Karoline and Frank Keithley.
Thirty-five of our adult volunteers who have each contributed in excess of
2,000 hours received a gold level Presidential award. Their combined service
to the Museum is in excess of 104,000 hours. Recipients are: Ed Baca, Holly
Baer, Allan Burke, Carol Bush, Daniel Bush, Sandra Bybee, Lew Chesley,
Stanley Cohen, Adele Coplen, Nance Crow, Machelle Dawn, John Dean, George
Edgerly, Darlene Fraher, Barry Halsey, Kash Heitkamp, Robert Hubbard,
Ken Hueter, Dave Hunter, Walter Kleweno, Rolf Lindquist, John McDonnell,
Barbara Micheel, Jim Moore, Mary Moore, Lannois Neely, J.B. Norton, Jr.,
Marilyn Ortman, Don Parker, Larry Rinehart, Pat Robinson, Paul Stubbe,
Mary Sundstrom, and Mary Lou Swander.
The Museum is blessed to have over 500 dedicated volunteers who do
everything from greeting guests to serving as interpreters in the Museums
exhibit galleries to actively helping with the scientific mission of the Museum.
Thank you volunteers for everything you do, and congratulations to the 40
Presidential Service Award recipients.
