harmful if swallowed.

It contains a carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction agent of the 2 category (unproved effects on man but
there is sufficient evidence to provide a strong presumption that human exposure to it may result in such effects): if
protective measures are not taken, the risk of a cancer development can thus be increased as well as the risk of
hereditary genetic changes. Loss of fertility and development retardations of the child may be also possible both before
and after birth.
Effects on the environment
This preparation is classified as TOXIC to the aquatic environment.
Refer also to the paragraphs 11, 13 and 15.

4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
CONTACT WITH SKIN
Take off contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash immediately with plenty of water.
CONTACT WITH EYES
Rinse immediately with plenty of water for approximately 15 minutes. Consult quickly an ophthalmologist in all cases.
INHALATION
Theoretically, not applicable. Under abnormal conditions of use causing considerable inhalation, remove the casualty
from the contaminated area, let him take a rest in a well-ventilated room and seek medical advice.
INGESTION
Do not give anything to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Call the medical service to transfer immediately to hospital in order
to observe the evolution of local hepatic and renal troubles. The use of sequestrating products has been recommended.
PROTECTION OF THE FIRST-AIDERS
According to the situation, wear gloves, glasses, protective clothes and shoes, a mask
________________________________________________________________________________________________
5 - FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
SUITABLE EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
Water spray.
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA WHICH SHALL NOT BE USED
No.
SPECIFIC HAZARDS
Can react with easily oxidizable/combustible materials.
Decomposition begins at about 400C by releasing oxygen.
Prevent any material from entering drains or waterways or earth.
PROTECTION OF THE FIRE-FIGHTERS
Because of the substances produced during thermal decomposition, use approved self-contained breathing equipment
and protective clothing in case of intervention.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Avoid contact with eyes, the skin and clothes: wear at least gloves and glasses and if needed a FFP3 mask.
Dispose of all contaminated clothing or shoes and wash thoroughly with water.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS
Do not allow the product to be thrown away. Recover as much as possible for processing within the firm or by an
approved centre. Reduce the remaining product for example with sodium bisulphite.
METHODS FOR CLEANING UP
Remove with water the non-recoverable product. Collect the recoverable rinsing water for processing within the firm or by
an approved centre.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE
HANDLING
Use as supplied. Close containers (in PE) tightly after use with the original cap. Do not re-use containers with another
product.
STORAGE
Store on a spill-retaining vat, away from organic, flammable, easily oxidizable, combustible or basic materials. Keep in a
ventilated room in original containers only, between 5 and 30C. The maximum recommended shelf life is THREE years
from the date of manufacture under normal conditions of storage.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
EXPOSURE CONTROLS
TECHNICAL MEASURES
No drinking, eating or smoking on the workplace.
Maintain the premises and the work stations in perfect state of cleanliness and clean them frequently.
Observe a very strict cutaneous hygiene and change clothes after work.

During the treatment that is realized at ambient temperature during a very short time, there are not especially fumes,
vapours or sprays and it is mainly necessary to avoid contact with skin and eyes.
EXPOSURE LIMIT VALUES IN AIR

of 30 June 2004, INRS file ND 2098
Sulphuric acid
3
Average value (8 h) = 1 mg/m
3
Limit value (15 min) = 3 mg/m
(INRS file ND 2098)
PERSONAL PROTECTION
Provide a shower, a powerful tap and sink unit and an eye basin near the workplace.
-
Respiratory protection: provide if possible an inhaling and extraction of the air out of the premises, particularly for the
treatment of large areas. Or work in a ventilated place, and wear if necessary a filtering FFP3 mask (EN 149:2001
standard).
Hand protection: wear imperatively gloves (in latex, nitrile, neoprene or PVC).
Eye protection: wear imperatively glasses or a facial screen. Do not wear contact lenses.
Skin protection: wear overalls and safety shoes.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Very toxic by inhalation. Danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure. May also cause sensitisation by
inhalation (asthma, rhinitis).
IN CASE OF INGESTION
Harmful. May cause caustic damage, liver and kidney attacks and cardiovascular problems.
According to studies on animals, this preparation is suspected to cause on man cancer, hereditary genetic changes, loss
of fertility and undesirable effects upon the unborn child (agent of the 2nd class).
OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES: tables n10, 10a (in FRANCE).
________________________________________________________________________________________________
12 - ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
There are no ecological data on the preparation.
Prevent any material from entering drains or waterways or earth.
In general, a pH lower than 5 is fatal.
The toxicity tends to increase with the decrease of water hardness and the increase of temperature.
ECOTOXICITY
Bibliographic data concerning sodium dichromate:
LC50: 96 h, 69 mg Cr /L (trout, salmo gairdneri)
EC50 : 24 h, 1.4 mg Cr /L (Daphnia magna)
Bibliographic data concerning sulphuric acid (at 94-98 %):
FISH-LC50 (24 h) = 82 mg/L, DAPHNIA-EC50 (24 h) = 29 mg/L.
DEGRADABILITY: Chromium VI in water can be reduced in Chromium III by organic matters in water; Chromium III will
settle in the sediments.
BIOACCUMULATIVE POTENTIAL: the bioaccumulation of chromium in soil and on the plants in surface is unlikely.
Chromium is found in many organisms living in soft water and accumulates moderately. There is no indication of the
biologic increase of the chromium concentration along the food chain (earth, plant and animal). Sulphuric acid has a low
potential of bioaccumulation.
According to directive 67/548/EC, the concentration of chromate ions is sufficient to classify this preparation with the N
symbol Dangerous for the environment and the R51-53 phrase.

13 - DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
This product and water used for rinsing must not be thrown away notably because of their acidity and content in
chromium. They must be processed within the firm or destroyed by an approved organization.
Contaminated packaging if not re-used with the same product is also special waste to be sent to an approved
organization for recycling or disposal.
Classification according to the commission directive 2000/532/EC of 3 May 2000 and its modifications (in particular
2001/118/EC, OJ L47). Use the mandatory documents to follow-up the waste products.

As the volume of rinsing water is small, it can be added to the waste solutions.
NOTE: in addition to the community provisions, it can be specific legislative and administrative, national or local
provisions on this topic.
