Montage
Description:

I made a spiritual montage with 2 pictures. I also used typography.

Programs:

Adobe Photoshop

Date:

October 26, 2014

Course:

Comm 130 Section 1

Instructor:
Cory Kerr

Objectives:

Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scriptures
your choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text
size. Theme word(s)
Select good quality images

Process:

I found 2 images of of Google The back ground picture was too big
so I cropped it to fit the size of the paper. The second picture I
used lasso and pulled it from its picture to the first picture. I
then blended it into the main picture until i looked like it was
part of the picture. I then added the quote and use a 2 contrasting fonts to separate the author from the quote.

Logos
Description:

I made 3 logos for the same program.

Programs:

Adobe Illustrator

Date:

November 2, 2014

Course:

Comm 130 Section 1

Instructor:
Cory Kerr

Objectives:
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or
personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or
live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it
with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals
most to them.

Process:

This logo was fun to make on illustrator. I used the Hexagon tool to
make the honey comb. I used the rounded rectangle tool to make the
stick of the honey wand. I then use the oval tool to make head of
the wand. I used the oval tool to make the honey on the wand and made
it 60% fade on it to make it see through. Same with the honey on the
pot. I used the oval tool make the the honey pot. I use the rectangle
tool to make the yellow rectangle on the pot. I used the oval tool to
make the circle around the honey pot. the rest is just typography.
Each logo has different sized words.

Buisness Card
Description:

Created a Logo and made a business card and stationary to match it.

Programs:

Adobe InDesing

Date:

November 9, 2014

Course:

Comm 130 Section 1

Instructor:
Cory Kerr

Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos
or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125. Business card
should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a vertical page.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white
space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:

I made the logo in Adobe Illustrator. I used the rounded rectangle shape tool to
make the layers of the beehive. To make the bees I used the oval tool to make the
body and wings and the rectangle tool to make the stripes. I made the wings somewhat transparent and drew in them to give the the wing look. After making one I
copied and pasted to make 2 more.
To make the business card I used the logo to shape the card. I put it on the back
part of the card. On the other side I used text for the information of the company.
For the
and one
company
company

stationary I used the logo twice. I used one for the top part of the letter
as a water mark. I used an orange thin rectangle at the top to separate the
name from the rest. on the right top corner of it is the Owners name and
information.

Event Ad
Description:

I used Microsoft Word and a scanner to make the ad. It is also suppose
to be in full color as well.

Programs:

Microsoft Word

Date:

October 11, 2014

Course:

Comm 130 Section 1

Instructor:
Cory Kerr

Objectives:

Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and
audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:

I scanned the fire image, and then used a Word image effect to make
it bigger then the background. I the moved the image to take up 2/3
of the page. I then used multiple text boxed for title and the information about the event. I also made sure that the text boxes had no
back ground color so that the black background would go through. I
made the colors yellow because yellow stands out really well with the
black back ground. I also made sure that the text was within the other
1/3 of the page. I was surprised with how easy this was to make once I
understood the how to do it. Programs I used: Microsoft Word, Epson
Scanner, PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter).

Web Page
Description:

A web page to show a logo I created

Programs:
TextWrangler

Date:

November 23, 2014

Course:

Comm 130 Section 1

Instructor:
Cory Kerr

Objectives:

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300
500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a
target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design skills, etc,)
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li
tags), img, hr, and a link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided CSS provided to format
the HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the following: The h1 text
color & background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background
color, font families and add at least one css comment.)
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot with .5 inch
margins for printing.

Process:

I created this web page using only TextWrangler. It was hard because I had never seen or written any HTML/CSS until this project. It was interesting to see how
you could make a web page by only using a simple text editor. I also had to use the
http://www.W3.org HTML validator. That was used to tell me if I did the code correctly or not. After I made my code and inserted my image, I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I also used the colors in my logo as the colors you see in my web
page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also
changed my fonts to Arial Black and Georgia. I also had some backup fonts just
in case the viewers browser didnt have these fonts. Programs/Tools Used: TextWrangler & Photoshop.

Imaging.
Description:

I took good pictures and edited them to Incorporating to improve my

edit skills Then put the photo in a poster and added the 3 colors I
used from the photo..

Programs:

Adobe Photoshop

Date:

October 19, 2014

Course:

Comm 130 Section 1

Instructor:
Cory Kerr

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four
sides.

Process:

I use my sketch to peace the puzzle together. I also used the FOCUS
book to figure out the best color layout. I used my thirds photo to
make this. I used my digital camera for the picture. I then used photo
shop and used these 4 things: levels, sharpness, saturation, and color
balance. I then made a page to put my design on. I also added a color
scheme title, color swatches, and color names into my design. I used
the eye dropper to match the colors in the page. I made labels for my
3 colors that I choose. Used the measuring part of photo shop to make
sure that everything was evenly spaced.
