Public holidays in the Philippines are days off that have been provided for by law (Chapter 7 of the Administrative Code of 1987) and which are observed
across the nation. There are two main types of public holidays in the Philippines:
1. Regular holidays
2. Special days
Each year the president of the Philippines will make a proclamation regarding the dates and observations of the following years public holidays. Though
public holidays are defined by the law stated above, the Presidents proclamations remove any doubt about dates for a given year. His proclamations
also allow for modifications to be made to the list of public holidays for any particular year.
The proclamation regarding 2014 dates is no. 655. The proclamation of public holidays for 2015 is no. 831.
Public Holidays 2014
The official public holidays were announced with President Benigno Aquino III signing Proclamation 655 on September 25, 2013. There are 20 public
holidays scheduled for 2014, including the addition of Chinese New Year.
