Fillmore Friday Focus

Vol. #14

NewsFlash
A sense of community is what
makes any organization cohesive and
powerful. Not only does a sense of
community exist at Fillmore High School
but it spills over and is a vital part of the
City of Fillmore. This was evident last
Saturday at the Fillmore Christmas
Parade. Students from band, drama
and cheer represented Fillmore High
School in the parade. Students involved
in the police explorers program, led by
RSO Deputy Vasquez, controlled traffic
along the parade route alongside the
Lions Club members.
Here is our own Joe Woods
playing the part of Santa.

The band is sounding its best

for the City of Fillmore.

Classroom Corner
Students in the Integrated Science class
were thoroughly engaged in a recent project.
The students had to design, build and adjust a
multi-track roller coaster in class. The
requirements included a design that featured
loops, turns and drops. Engagement and critical
thinking skills were high during the activity.
(I hope that this video clip can be seen
on through the school system. It worked at
home).

Activities
Fillmore Strong!!! The Marine Corps
brought their pull up bar to Fillmore High
School. It was such a hit that they plan to return
to FHS in the near future.
Mr. Kandel is showing the power of teaching.

Special Shout to Mr. Steven Kandel who did 10 pull ups

Intramurals finished up with the

championship game played on Wednesday at
lunch. The game pitted Strike Force vs. the
Crazy Cantinflas with Strike Force winning on
penalty kicks.
The whole idea behind
intramurals is to offer an opportunity for
students not connected to the school to have
something to look forward to in terms of
extracurricular activities.

Another example of an activity that connects

students to the school that normally do not
participate in school events is the Spanish
Dance. The first ever Spanish Dance brought
together students that do not even attend
regular dances for a night of fun and dancing.
The students were so pleased with the
attendance at the dance that they want to have
several more dances this year. Thanks go out to
Mecha for sponsoring it.
