Description

TRANSCODER MONITORING
Ericsson introduced a new parameter in R10 via a set of corrections
called TRADROPLEVEL (Threshold for high rate for dropped calls). In R11 this
parameter was systemized, and become a standard functionality for R11
systems.
Added Functionality:

1) Option to define if faulty device should be removed from the pool. If

TRADROPLEVE < 100 only an alarm is raised, if TRADROPLEVE > 100
the device is removed from the pool. See Appendix 1 for description of this
parameter.
2) Possibility to monitor Call Drop Rate and Mean Holding Time per device
(command RRMAP).

3) Description of the devices with failures in RXMLP command.

Note: This is a non standard functionality, implemented for the Rogers network
in order to enhance failures monitoring.

LIST OF COMMANDS USED FOR THE MONITORING

Following is a list of the used commands to monitor Transcoder
problems.

1. Operation and Maintenance people are supposed to start the

monitoring using the ALLIP command. (ALLIP;)
For Transcoder failures there are the following alarms that could be
expected:

Comments
The usefulness of presented monitoring is higher for Operation and
Maintenance people and support people.
From the RF point of view the Transcoder failures impact on the TCH drop with
reason Other. So the importance of this monitoring will be on generating
statistics on the number of TRA devices with failure and if a sudden increase on
TCH drop because Other occurs correlate it with those TRA statistics.

The main source of this TRA Statistics in my opinion must come from the
RRMAP command and from the RXMLP in case more detailed information such
as the date and time of the failures are required.

APENDIX 1
TRADROPLEVEL
Threshold for high rate for dropped calls. This parameter enables the operator
to use or remove automatically from traffic the transcoder devices with a high
rate of dropped calls. If the rate is higher than or equal to the specified
threshold value, an alarm is raised. If the alarm is issued, the transcoder
devices can either still be used for traffic or automatically removed from traffic.
The check is performed every 5 minutes. The property value, when it is greater
than 0, is given in percent.
Property type: Optional
0 No alarm is raised, independently on the percentage of the dropped calls rate.
Transcoder devices with high drop rate are used for the traffic. 10-60 Alarm is
issued when 10 - 60 percent of the calls are dropped. Transcoder devices with
high drop rate are still used for traffic.
110-160 Alarm is issued when 10 - 60 percent of the calls are dropped.
Transcoder devices with high drop rate are automatically removed from traffic.
Default value: 0
This parameter is owned by the block RTTPH.

The only useful column on this printout is the one highlighted below. That one
tell us the device number with failure.
Each raw represents a TRA device failure that include the date and time when
the failure occurred.
