Produce Market Report December 23, 2014

Good Buys

Grapefruit: The citrus,

especially grapefruit coming
out of Florida now is
outstanding! The color is a
deep, rich red and the tangy
fruit is incredibly juicy. Just
what a cold winter morning
calls for! Another idea is to
pop a half into the oven
sprinkled with brown sugar
and drizzled with Gran
Marnier. Warmth galore!

Leafy items: Shippers in the

west are looking to move
their very nice quality greens
this week. Iceberg, romaine,
romaine hearts, green and
red leaf are all bargain priced
and outstanding quality.

Cantaloupe, honeydews

Cantaloupes have spiked up

Honeydews are also high.
There is no relief in sight for
the spike in watermelon
prices, either.

Green grapes: Although we

are still pulling out of
California for reds, lunch
bunch and black seedless, the
green grapes are now coming
from either Chile or Peru and
the prices are high for green.

Asparagus: The market has

peaked out and cant get any
higher. We have white and
purple asparagus from Peru.

Red and yellow peppers:

Red are now in 15lb. packs
and fairly active. We have
yellow in 11 lb packs.

Brussels sprouts: This

Christmas staple has shot up.
