The Apostolic Johannite Church

Initiated by the Baptist, transmitted by the

Apostle, and restored in the modern era, the
Apostolic Johannite Church enacts the
Johannite Tradition through an esoteric, Gnostic
and Christian path of spiritual understanding and
self-discovery. Ignited in community, nurtured
by individual practice, and fed by service, the
Sacred Flame of Gnosis embodied in the tradition
of the Holy Saints John, lives anew through the
work of the Apostolic Johannite Church.

Brothers & Sisters in the Gnosis,

Our Mission Becomes a Narthex

Having shared my Advent message in our last bulletin, I

wanted to backtrack in the calendar a wee bit and gibe
another special holiday its due. Just over two weeks ago,
many of us gathered with family and/or loved ones to
celebrate Thanksgiving. A special day set aside for the act
of and reflection on gratitude is a beautiful thing. Yes, we
need to be thankful for all that life and Divine intervention
bring us every day. But designating a single date on the
calendar specifically dedicated to giving thanks makes for a
powerful statement.

Have you noticed something different about our outpost in Indiana?

No, the faces have not changed . . . much. They are still meeting in
the some wonderful space. The change is actually more subtle than all
of that. Suffice it to say that our mission has grown up into something
even more special. With this change, the group has also taken on a
new name too. This month, we tip our hats to the newly elevated St.
Bernard of Clairvaux Narthex.

I have and continue to believe that regardless of where we

are in our lives, there is always something to be thankful
for. Maybe its our health, or the kindness of a stranger, or
a stroke of luck, or even something wonderful happening
for someone for whom we care deeply. Even on our darkest
days, a single reverie of something for which you are
grateful can part those clouds and let a little light shine in.
Try it sometime. Try it when you are angry or feeling
down or when you feel like everything is just going wrong.
What are you thankful for?
At St. Johns, we are thankful for each and every one of you
our supporters. You are the heart, soul, and very reason
for being of this little parish. It is you who make the all the
work so worthwhile. May each of you always have much
for which to give thanks of your own.

- Rev. Deacon John DiGilio

A narthex is a little different than a mission in that it enjoys a bit more

autonomy and requires less supervision from its rector. Our dear
brother, Matthew Backus, will now officially run its day to day
operations (not that he has not been essentially doing so for many
months now). But it is a joy to be able to officially recognize his
outstanding leadership. Congratulations Brother and congratulations
to all of our brothers and sisters in Chesterton!
