3. In each of the two cases, determine whether or not is linearly dependent on the set :
(a) = (2, 1, 4)/ , = {(1, 1, 1), (0, 1, 1), (0, 0, 1)}, and
(b) = (1, 2, 1)/ , = {(1, 0, -2), (0, 2, 1), (1, 2, -1), (-1, 2, 3)}.
4. In each of the two case, determine whether or not the set is linearly dependent:
(a) = {(1, 0, -2), (0, 2, 1), (-1, 2, 3)} and (b) = {(1, 2, -1), (-1, 1, 0), (1, 3, -1)}.
remaining x1 ,..., xi 1 , xi +1 ,..., xm , show that the set x1 ,..., xi 1 , xi +1 ,..., xm also spans V .
(b) Let S be a vector space of dimension n and let { x1 ,..., xm } be a linearly independent set
9. Given that each set below spans 3 , find a basis of 3 that is contained in :
(a) = {(2, 6, -3), (5, 15, -8), (3, 9, -5), (1, 3, -2), (5, 3, -2)}; and
(b) = {(1, 1, 0), (2, 2, 0), (2, 4, 1), (5, 9, 2), (7, 13, 3), (1, 2, 1)}.
10. Given that each set is a basis of 4 and that each
