as many definitions for leadership as there are people who have tried to define it.
Ultimately, Leadership is defined by Northouse, P.G (coretext) as a process
whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.
This essay will focus on the collective evaluation of emotional intelligence and
culture and how it effects leadership in organisations.

Emotional Intelligence and Leadership

Several variety of approaches to leadership has been proposed; researchers

examined what leaders are like, their actions, how to influence and motivate others,
how their style work together with situational conditions, and how they can impact
their organisations. Some researchers also analysed when leadership might not be
important and some experts of leadership have suggested that leadership may not
be vital and other leadership suggest that leadership may even be constructed in the
minds of followers than a representative of those who inhabit leadership roles (e.g.
Meindl, 1990). While a lot has been learned about leadership this mixture of
approaches, it still kind of on paradox.

The concept of emotional intelligence can be used to assess the impact of traits on
leadership. In the 1990s emotional intelligence developed as a central area of study
in psychology. It has been vastly studied by researches according to P.G.
Northouse, and gained the attention of several practitioners (Caruso & Wolfe, 2014;
Golemean, 1995, 1998; Mayer & Salovey, 1995, 1997; Mayer Salovey, & Caruso,
2000; Shankman & Allen, 2008).

Many researchers believe that feelings which are moods and emotions play a crucial
role in the leadership process. Emotional intelligence the ability to understand and
manage moods and emotion in self and others has been proposed to contribute to

effective leadership in organizations. According to George J.M. (EI AND leadership

journal) describes four major aspects of emotional intelligence, the appraisal and
expression of emotion, the use of emotion to enhance cognitive processes and
decision making, knowledge about emotions, and management of emotions.
George J.M. also asserts how the contribution of emotional intelligence to effective
leadership by focusing on five essential elements of leader effectiveness:
development of collective goals and objectives; instilling in others an appreciation of
the importance of work actives; generating and maintaining enthusiasm, confidence,
optimism, cooperation, and trust; encouraging flexibility in decision making and
change; and establishing and maintaining a meaningful identity for an organisation.
