Projects and Presentations

1. Purification, in vitro refolding and biochemical study of Yjda protein, a
proposed member of Dynamin Family :
Guided by:-Dr Balaji Prakash, IIT Kanpur
May 2006 to July 2006
In the project I was given to purify the protein, Yjda, a proposed member of bacterial
dynamin family. Previously this protein had shown insolubility with the His-Tag, so that
time GST-tagged Yjda cloned in E-coli was used. Protein had not been soluble with the
new tag also. After that in vitro refolding experiments were tried. In vitro refolding
experiments showed promising results in terms of amount of soluble protein. Amount of
soluble protein was also estimated using enzyme assay. Estimated amount was found to

be good for performing structural biology study. During my three months of project
besides my own project I was actively involved in other research activities of the lab.
2. Presentation on Ribosome and its interaction with antibiotics:
In the presentation structural and molecular basis of ribosome function and its
interaction with antibiotic was presented. This presentation was based on the paperFunctional insights from the structure of the 30S ribosomal subunit and its
interactions with antibiotics.
(Andrew P. Carter, William M. Clemons, Ditlev E. Brodersen, Robert J. Morgan-Warren,
Brian T. Wimberly & V. Ramakrishnan)
3. Poster Presentation on the work on Yjda protein:
I presented a poster on my work on Yjda in the department.
4. Presentation on Microbial growth:
This presentation dealt with the correlation of microbial growth to its physical and
chemical environment.
5. Fun Project:
In the fun project our group tried to cultivate paramecium from pond water using wheat
infusion broth.
6. NGOs in India:
Guided by: Dr T. Ravichandran and Dr Balaji Prakash, IIT Kanpur
In the project we studied about the NGOs in India with the field work in Kanpur.
