DESCRIPTION:
1.1.1. The work under this section consists of furnishing and installing solid maple
wood flooring and related work as shown on the drawings and specified herein.

REFERENCES
The publications listed below form part of this specifications to the extent referenced.
The publications are referred to in the text by basic designation only.

SUBMITTALS:
1.3.1. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's detailed technical data and installation
instructions for type of wood flooring. Include instructions for handling,
storage, installation, dimensions of individual components, profiles, edge detail,
finishing, protection and maintenance.
1.3.2. Samples consisting of sets of range samples for each type of wood flooring.
1.3.2.1. Include finish samples of factory-finished flooring.
1.3.2.2. Accessories: Include minimum of 150 mm long samples of each type
of required accessory item such wood or metal feature strips,
baseboard, trim, molding, and nosings.
1.3.3. Shop Drawings showing layout and types of wood flooring, including plans,
elevations, sections, details of anchorage and attachments and conditions
requiring feature strips, reducer strips, baseboard, trim, molding, nosings, or
other accessories

1.6.
WARRANTY
1.6.1. Warranty: Submit a written warranty agreeing to repair or replace wood
flooring that fails in materials or workmanship within the specified warranty
period. Failures include, but are not limited to:
1.6.1.1. Buckling, warping, squeaking, and loosening.
1.6.1.2. Excessive open joints or cracks.
1.6.1.3. Deterioration of finishes beyond normal wear.
1.6.2. Warranty Period: 1 year from date of substantial completion.

FINISHING MATERIALS
2.2.1. Floor Sealer: Penetrating type, pliable, sealer or sealer/finish; as recommended
by flooring manufacturer and approved by Maple Flooring Manufacturing
Association (MFMA).
2.2.2. Floor Finish: As recommended by flooring manufacturer and approved by
MFMA suitable for floor application or use.

INSPECTION
3.1.1. Examine substrates where wood flooring will be installed and conditions under
which work will be performed. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected in manner acceptable to Installer.
3.2
PREPARATION
3.2.1. Where direct application of wood flooring to concrete substrate is indicated,
test for dryness before proceeding with installation. Check levelness of
concrete substrate to ensure not more than 6 mm deviation in any direction
when checked with 3 m straight edge. Grind down high spots or fill in low
spots to correct improper conditions.
3.2.2. Apply moisture barrier over concrete substrate or sub-floor as recommended
by flooring manufacturer.
3.3.
INSTALLATION
3.3.1. General: Comply with manufacturers' written instructions and
recommendations for application indicated, but not less than National Oak
Flooring Manufacturers Association (NOFMA) standards.
The installation shall be carried out by Specialist Sub-Contractor approved by
the Contracting Officer.

Apply wood filler by brush, then wipe across grain to work into
pores and cracks.
3.3.2.5.

PROTECTION
3.4.1. Protect installed unfinished and pre-finished wood flooring during remainder of
construction period with heavy Kraft paper or other suitable covering to
prevent damage or deterioration. Do not use plastic sheet or film that could
cause condensation.
3.4.2. Do not cover site-finished floors with Kraft paper, rugs or any other material
until finish reaches full cure, usually 6 or 7 days.
