Notes:
1. "AWG" is the American Wire Gauge (or Brown & Sharpe)
system which is used for electrical and most other non-ferrous
metal wire.
2. "W & M" is the Washburn & Moen system which is used for
most steel wire (except music wire).
3. "Sheet Gauge" is the US Standard Gauge for sheet and plate
steel. The number following each sheet gauge number is the
weight of that gauge of steel in pounds/SF.
4. The first number for all taps is the diameter of the screw in
either inches, number (#), or pipe size. The second number is
the threads per inch. NC and NF refer to the American National
thread classifications: National Course and National Fine. NPS
and NPT refer to pipe threads (straight and tapered threads
respectively). The drill size listed for each tap is based on a pilot
hole that is approximately 75% of the thread diameter. For
softer materials a slightly smaller drill can be used.
5. The outside diameters listed in the tap column are the actual
diameters for numbered screw sizes. For clearance holes use a
slightly larger drill.
Compiled by Bruce Hooke primarily using data from L.S.Starrett Co. and MSC Industrial Supply.
I made this for my own use and thought others might find it useful so I put it up on the web. I make no guarantees about its accuracy.
