TO

MOVE,

S!

As many of you may recall, Gary got a job in

Dayton, Ohio last March and we were supposed to
be moving there. But how were we to know what
would happen next.
We put our house on the market and sold it
within two weeks.

One week later the deal had

fallen through. We then went through severa.1

months of an incredibly slow market. In the
fall, we sold the house for a second time.

We waited for a couple weeks just to make sure

there were no problems. We were having problems
finding a house in Dayton, so we decided to get

a 6 month lease on an apartment and just keep our eyes open. We had everjdihing arranged
and ready to go. Two days before the scheduled closing, the family two houses back lost
their financing and we had a domino effect.

IF we even find out we are moving, we will be sure to give everyone plenty of notice about

EUNT:)

As you you are probably aware, we started a car fund a year ago to replace the
damaged car we had in Italy. We did not raise enough money to replace it; therefore, we
had to repair it to get us through until we returned to the [J.S. for furlough. We were
able to sell it just before leaving for the States. The fionds we raised a year ago were
not nearly enough to buy the needexi car. We currently have $10,000, only half of the
$20,000 that ve need for the car, A deeply
felt thank you goes to all of you who have
already contributed so greatly.
But we must
ask that insiny of you consider contributing

After we

The tnae horror of any air traveller (other than the plane falling from the sky)

is that the airline loses a],l or part of his luggage.

Tt)s probably happened to a good

many, of you; now its happened to us too! Having varied and sundry complications after
our arrival at New York, we xcere finally transferred to a PAN AM flight to Cincinnati.
We {personally delivered oiir irngs and trunk to the check-in desk before boarding the
flight.
That
the last, we have seen of our trunk, which contained almost all of
our Phristnias and Thank You gifts, plus clothes for the Ipaby-to-come, an Italian
cookbook, important papers, etc. We were recently re-imbursed for most of the
contents of the trunk.

IVhat have we

learned from all of this?

That:

1. Few if any airlines are totally reliable, especially on Domestic flights.

2. r)ur family is a forgiving one (no one minded doing \vithout gifts; they are just
glad we're home!)
3. We can do without more things than we had realized.

4. The Lord always provides for your needs (as usual)! We have already received a
few baby gifts and know now what to do about the more important items. Maybe someone
else will get good use out of my It.alian cookbook!

Address Correctioa Requested

We are now half way through our travel schedule.

We have enjoyed and been blessed by the chance to see so

many of our supporters, though our time is so limited

with everyone. You all have been a very real blessing to
us.
Thank you! We praise the Lord for the addition
of the Mt. Ivy Christian Church to the list of our supporters - Welcome and Thank You!

Thank
fYou!

We are looking forward to be able

to spend the month of May in Cincinnati,
finishing preparations on VBS & camp
programs, catching up on paper work &
correspondence, and pre-paring for our
baby's arrival. Let's stop here to
address a prayer need: It appears the
baby has returned to a breach position,
T^iich would mean another C-section i f

he/she doesn't turn in time. This was

particularly discouraging. Although

there is plenty of time for!the bal^
to turn, we want to avoid the surgery
both for Valeri's sake (since it's
major surgery and foregoing will
provide Valeri a chance of faster
recovery), but also for the baby's
good health. Please pray for us, we
will keep you posted.

After talking and praying with a tanporary advisory council, we have decided to
extend our stay until next spring. There sire still several things we need to take care of
while in the States. Steve will return (probably accompanied by Micah) to Italy in August
for a couple of weeks to settle things there for the furlough extension.

Valeri is

already doing some periodic translating for a small import business here in Cincinnati.
Steve will seek temporary employment in September after he returns from Italy to help
suppliment our monetary needs while here. We will rent an apartment while here and will
continue our apartment in Italy, since the extension is for a short period. This would
unduly drain the Mission's income, therefore Steve must find employment. We do plan to
continue with contacts through mail and translation work.

Memo

Since the last time I wrote I've been almost

half across the country meeting lots of people and

especially lots of kids! I love it!
I have forgotten most of my Italian for now

though Mommy and Daddy talk to me in that strange

language at times; but I'll pick it up pretty quickly

once we get back home next year.

We're getting excited about the baby coming.

Sometimes I even run up to Mommy's tummy, give the
baby a hug & kiss and say, "I love you! Come out and
play!" Do you think he/she hears me? Sometimes I
tell Mommy that I want a baby sister, other times I
say I want a baby brother. Right now I'm not sure
which would be better, but I do know one thing . . ,
I can't wait 'till the baby comes. "Come on!
I want to play!"

We have shsired in our presentations the ever increasing need for more workers
in Europe. In the last 4 years, Italy alone has lost 6 missionaries, 3 to death and 3
to the States for health reasons or lack of support. The work to be done in Italy is
ever increasing. Please pray with us that the Lord will raise up laborers to His
harvest. If you know of anyone vho is interested in missions in Europe, have them
contact us at the S.E.E.Mission address.

There are several other medical requests as well. Please pray for the fol
lowing: 1 - Evelyn Jones (Bari, Italy) has been recommended by her doctors to have
surgery. All should be resolved by the end of May.
2 - Evelina Neglia (wife of Pino
who ministers in Lecce, Italy) has gone through her second miscarriage. Pray for
them as they continue to try to start their family.
3 - Vito Gentile (Ciampino,

Italy) collapsed and was taken to the hospital. The doctors decided to keep him
there to ensure complete bed rest for a while, though his EKG resulted normal.
In Sniniona -

Even though we haven't been there for several months, a great deal continues
to happen. Some of the teens from congregations in other cities have been distributing
tracts in Sulmona.

The Chisholms on the "move'

The missionaries xiho have encouraged us most in ovir ministry are moving frcMn
Pescara to Avezzano. They are starting another American school in Avezzano for the
Texas Instruments Company, which is moving 60 American families there to start a new
company. They will be working with many new contacts. The congregation in Pescara will

continue under its own leadership with the occasional help from the Chisholms.
