Igniting Healthcare Innovation in Africa

Healthcare in South Africa and Africa is facing a myriad of challenges in delivering care
to those who need it most. Now more than ever, innovation is required to develop
solutions that can improve the delivery of healthcare in Africa in an inclusive, effective
and affordable manner. These solutions must transcend current challenges in the system
to improve health outcomes for patients and also to change the routines, responsibility
and values of our healthworkers responsible for delivering the care.

How can we ignite inclusive innovation in Africa?

On 29 & 30 January 2014, local and international healthcare leaders, practitioners and
innovators will gather in Cape Town for the first Inclusive Healthcare Innovation
Summit.

Are you an innovator or influencer in the government, private

health industry, academia, not for profit or in the
community?
This gathering will be a platform inviting the active participation of the whole health
community to share, learn about needs-based innovations in different dimensions and to
co-create new solutions that can bring about health systems transformation.
Dont miss this dymanic and stimulating event to connect with strategic partners and
thought leaders in this field.

Together we can pioneer new solutions for a healthier African

future.

Passports and visas

Every visitor to South Africa must have a valid passport with at least 2 completely empty
pages and a remaining validity of at least 6 months.
At the time of preparing this web page, passport holders from 70 countries, including
USA, Canada, UK, Japan and the EU can visit South Africa without a visa. However,
please verify current visa requirements with your travel agent or your nearest South
African diplomatic mission.
Where visas are required, they are never issued at South African ports of entry, and
airline officials are obliged to insist on visas before allowing passengers requiring visas to
board a flight bound for South Africa.
Visitors with passports not having the necessary empty pages, validity or visa can be
denied entry through being prevented from boarding an aircraft bound for South
Africa or through refused entry and deportation on arrival in South Africa.
For an official visa letter please contact the conference organisers:
inclusivehealth@gsb.uct.ac.za

Yellow fever certificates

To prevent the spread of yellow fever, South Africa requires all travellers journeying from
yellow fever risk countries, or who have transited through a yellow fever risk country, to
show proof of yellow fever vaccination by means of a valid yellow fever vaccination
certificate. Please read more about yellow fever requirements here, and please ensure that
you have certificate if it is required. Failure to have the necessary certificate can result in
denial of permission to board a flight bound for South Africa or refusal of entry and
deportation upon arrival in South Africa.

Getting to Cape Town by air

Several international airlines fly direct to Cape Town International Airport, while
many others fly into Johannesburgs Oliver Tambo International Airport (thus
necessitating a two-hour domestic air connection between Johannesburg and Cape Town).
South Africa is a popular travel destination in December, particularly travel to Cape
Town, and thus Congress & Conference participants are encouraged to make their
flight arrangements as soon as possible.
