ONE LIFE EXPERIENCE BRIEF

Background
Together with Health Promotion Board, World Vision Singapore has organised
Singapore's first large-scaled exhibition to change the public's negative
perception of people living with HIV/AIDS. The exciting interactive exhibit is
known as the One Life Experience (OLE).
From 1 December 2007 till 3 February 2008, the mobile exhibition has been
to Woodlands, Toa Payoh, National Library and Singapore Management
University (SMU) to educate the public on devastating effect of HIV/AIDS on
young people and families in Singapore, Cambodia and Africa. With
compelling narration and imagery, OLE invites visitors to intimately walk in
the shoes of a person whose life has been affected by HIV/AIDS.
One Life Experience Run
As part of their campaign to publicise OLE, four students from the Wee Kim
Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) organised a noncompetitive run devoted entirely for the cause of HIV/AIDS on Friday, 30
November 2007 at Woodlands Civic Centre. With its unique format of having
more runners join in as the run progresses, it symbolises the support for
people affected by HIV/AIDS. Celebrities like Victor Wong, Jaymee Ong, Jack &
Rai from EIC, May and Choy, and Eunice Olsen also participated in the run to
show their support. A total of about 120 volunteers signed up for the run to
join in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The run led up to the official launch of OLE
by Dr Teo Ho Pin, mayor of Northwest CDC and Member of Parliament for
Bukit Panjang Constituency. Please refer to the appendix for pictures of the
run.

Overseas Workshop Opportunity

As a result of the teams publicity efforts, one of the team members, Miss
Choo Jingyi, has been chosen to represent Singapore at the Asia Regional
Training Workshop for Commonwealth Youth Ambassadors for Positive Living,
held in New Delhi, India from 11 to 16 Feb 2008. An annual event organised
by the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) Asia Centre, the workshops
seeks to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to spread
awareness about HIV/AIDS and sensitise them against stigma and
discrimination attached to HIV/AIDs patients.
During the conference, Jingyi will present a paper on the existing government
policies on combating AIDS, as well as the insights she gained while
publicising OLE to Singaporeans. Photos of her trip to the workshop as well
as interviews with Jingyi to share her experiences garnered from the trip can
be arranged.
