Headmasters Corner
We start by congratulating Clare Hawkins who had her baby Isabella Rose on Christmas Day. They even featured in the
Bristol Post as she was the first arrival on the day. We look forward to seeing them both very soon.
If your child has come asking about buying money to make a profit you may well be a little
confused. We thank Steve Boulton for a thoroughly interesting Look at my work assembly
on Thursday. Steve is a currency trader and I have to admire him on being able to deliver a
presentation to children aged from four to thirteen on such a
complicated topic but somehow they all understood the concept
and had they been trading for real would have come home with
bulging pockets.
We are delighted to announce that our Summer Ball will now be
held on Saturday 11th July. I would like to remind you all too that Speech Day is that morning
and all children and parents are invited but Reception through to Year 8 are expected to
attend. I look forward to confirming our guest speaker with you in the near future.
On Saturday 7th March we will be hosting a charity concert in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. This will be held in the
Manor House and will, I am sure, be a very enjoyable event. If you would like to support this very worthwhile cause please
contact the office to place your name on the list. The cost of tickets will be 10 and all proceeds will go directly to the
Trust. More information will follow shortly.
You may also wish to put Saturday 20th June in your diaries as we will be holding our Family Fun Day. Last years event
was absolutely superb and we hope to make it bigger and even better this year

FOTM

Under 9 Girls

Hello everyone! With the new term well started now,

there are a couple of things coming up to put in the
diary.
The first event is a wine tasting evening on Saturday
14th March. This was a great success last time - we
hope it will be again! Watch this space for details of
when the tickets will be out.
The second thing is a new and improved Play Drinks on
23/24 March. We have always offered a glass of
something to accompany the performance but this year
there will be substantial snacks as well. These will have
to be ordered in advance though, so do put in an order
when the forms are available after half term.
There will be a FOTM Easter Egg hunt for the children,
free of charge, on the last day of term - details to be
confirmed. Who knows if the Easter bunny will make an
appearance?

The U9 girls had a friendly fixture with Clifton College on

Wednesday. It was a super afternoon even though it was
cold. All the girls in Years 3 and 4 played and gained
experience in different positions in a 7-a-side game.

Spikes Wanted
If anyone has any cross country shoes (spikes) that
they have grown out of, the Nearly New Shop would
welcome them.

Fixture Change
On Wednesday 21st January Kings Gloucester are only
able to bring U9A and U11A teams for matches due to
numbers.

Club Information
U9 & U8 Netball Club will be every Friday from 1.30-2.00
pm (weather permitting).

Swimarathon (Years 5-8)

Cross country this week took place in very wet, windy and
muddy conditions.
There were excellent runs from Tabitha Huby, Georgina
Loring, James Allen, Laura Pena, Lewis Burrows, Rachel
Shutt, Alex Grocott, Alex Jacobi, George Symonds,
Freddie Cooper, Olivia Banks, Dalis Jones, Otis Walker,
Ellie Parker, Logan Fitzpatrick, Henry Packham and
William Bate.
There was an outstanding run by Kaya Priove who was
the only pupil to achieve her best time; a fabulous run in
the mud.
The Under 9 team are competing at Wycliffe Junior School
on Monday at 2.30 pm.

Look @ My Work Assembly

Mr Boulton, Alex Boultons father, gave a brilliant talk to
the whole school on Currency Trading this week. He
managed to simplify a very complex job in such a way that
even our Reception Class was keen to join the profession
by the end of the talk. We found out some interesting facts
about how long it would take to count a billion coins (32
years) and what a Japanese Candlestick is and how to
take advantage of 123s. We looked at trends on graphs
and discovered how useful a good understanding of Maths
is in certain professions. Mr Boulton had hands up all the
time and the children fielded some very clever questions
which kept him on his toes. We would like to thank Mr
Boulton very much for coming in to school and for giving
up so much of his time to tell us about his work.

Patrick Ryan
We were very lucky this week to welcome Patrick Ryan, a professional storyteller, to TMS. He told stories to everyone
from Year R to Year 8. He was entertaining and incredibly good at telling stories. He also exercised our brains with
riddles and games. He demonstrated a number of different techniques for telling stories confidently and for using our
imaginations. Years 7 and 8 had a workshop in the afternoon and learned how to make up stories at the drop of a hat.
There was a definite buzz about school after his visit and even the English teachers got a little masterclass of their own
after school. This made a very useful contribution to the storytelling which we are doing in school this term in Years 3 to
8 and will tie in well as we head towards the Radio 2 500 Words Competition.
