Explanation of high energetic objects in DSB Prelimanary report : Crash involving Malaysia

Airlines Boeing 777-200 flight MH17, Hrabove, Ukraine 17 July 2014

What are the differences between impacts of different weapons that eject high-energy objects ?
1.)
High-energy objects ejected by warheads mounted on Surface-to-Air-Missiles (SAM)/manpads,Airto-Air-Missiles(AA) hit planes with a speed up to 20km/s, that is10 to 30 times as fast like
machinegun ammunition does.
These shrapnels are so fast that they easily break through material like Aluminium without lots of
bursting. Crystalline metal structures that accelerating so fast each other (> 8km/s) behave like they
would be liquid or gases, the crystalline structures fails immediately. The shrapnels accelerated so
fast are also very hot on the surface.
This conducts to impact holes only the same size as the shrapnels are. The impact edges looking
like molten and have small burnings depending on disposable oxygen. These shrapnels have a
diameter of 5-12mm.
2.)
High-energy objects ejected by machineguns (aircraft mounted cannons) hit planes with a speed
between 0,5 - 1 km/s depends on distance and initial velocity.
While WW2 until now it is common in nearly all aircraft cannons to shoot different kind of
ammunition types in turns:
a) Massive projectiles that enters the target with the speed of cartridge.
b) Projectiles exploding close to the target inside or outside with high velocity explained in 1.)
Damages from type b) may look like damages in 1.)
Damages like a) are deforming the target structures in a process of cutting and pressing through the
aluminium. There are high tensions in the penetrated crystalline structures because the crystalline
structure is still intact and has to be shredded by the penetrating object. Aircraft cannon projetiles
type a) have a diameter of 20-40 mm. The target shredded structure hast to replace somewhere and
more tensions on the edges of impact zone appear. That leads to more bursting, cuttings and
deforming arround the impact. Most of that burstings have sharp edges because the replaced
materials teared from high tension, There are no meltings or burnings at the tension/replacing
damages. Maybe inside the impact zone, depends on disposable oxygen and temperature of
projectile and sum of the penetration there are meltings and burnings possible.
Here are examples of damages of air cannon ammo and WW2 flak (to show damage from high
velocity explosives up to ~7km/s)

DC-8 : 23mm aircraft cannon Decades in medium saltwater !

B-17 Flak damage: shrapnel speed > 1km/s < 4km/s

ME 109 ?: 20mm cannon

Ignition est. 20 m

Examples for high velocity explosive driven shrapnels, initial speed 15-25km/s, used in russian
warheads like Buk M1 (SA-11) and SA-series 3,6,7,8,14,16,19,22 and others... (of course western
models too, like Patriot and so on).

B-52,U-2: both shot by SA-3 B-52 damages est. 50 m ignition from plane, U2 est. 5 m

U2: SA-3 ignition est. 50 m from plane

This is the left Cockpit frame of MH17, it was moved to that pole to take this photo.
The impacts are clearly from low-speed projectiles from cannonfire.
But maybe this damages were made after the plane hit the ground. It is quite remarkable that this
part was presented this way just few hours after the incident. And everywhere in East Europe civil
war regions the last 20 years there were no problems to get an anti-aircraft-gun mounted on a truck.
So these damages can be seen must not be attached in a height of 33,000 ft.

Take care of yourself girls and boys ! And best wishes to all human beings, who ever you are.
Especially I mean Ukrainians of all color, ideologies and nations and everyone who lives north
and south and east and west and inside of Donbas so I mean everyone all around our wonderful
planet !
R.I.P. All victims (and I mean really everyone, equal to his/her motives) of ukrainian conflict and all
the other victims of all other violent acts during this hard times.
Get ready We are one world !
