In this weeks parsha, Parshat

Bo, Moshe tries time after time to
free the Jews, but to no avail.
Pharoh and the Egyptians have
already experienced most of the
plagues, and Hashem hardens
Pharohs heart after giving him
many chances to free Bnei Yisrael,
and begins to illustrate the Jews
final escape plan.
Upon introducing the plague of
locusts, Moshe and Aharon say to
Pharoh in 10:5,
. And they will obscure the
view of the earth. They do not
say, And they will obscure the
earth or And they will destroy the
earth. Rather, Moshe and Aharon
seem to point out the view.
On a typical, chilly January
morning in Washington D.C., a
man was playing his violin in a
Metro Station. About 2000 people
passed him as he played six Bach
pieces, very few stopping to look.
Rushing people on their ways to
work slowed as they passed him,
and some even threw a couple of
dollars in his hat, but they quickly
picked up speed and continued to
rush to their meetings and
commitments. Little children
stopped in front of him, only to be
pulled quickly away by their
mothers. When he finished after
an hour, there was no applause or
standing ovation. Only six people
had actually stopped to listen the
whole time he was playing, and he
made a grand total of $32.00 that
cold morning in the Metro.

What the 2000 people who

passed him without even a second
glance did not know, was that the
man playing the violin was Joshua
Bell, one of the greatest musicians
in the entire world. He was playing
a 3.5 million-dollar violin, and just
nights before, he played in a soldout show in Boston, where the
price for a single seat averaged
$100.
Perhaps Moshe and Aharon
were trying to teach Pharoh, and
the busy, rushing people of 2015, a
very valuable lesson. When they
said that the locusts would
obscure the view of the earth,
maybe they were trying to explain
that the stress of the negotiation
of the Jews release, the ten
plagues, and everything else that
was going on at the time, would
cause Pharoh and the Egyptians to
miss out on the beauty of life.
They would put their priorities of
getting rid of the locusts while still
keeping the Jews above slowing
down to enjoy the small things.
The 2000 people in the Metro
that morning did not have the
time to stop and listen to one of
the best musicians in the world.
Imagine how many opportunities
we must pass up on a regular basis
just because we cannot find the
time. We wish for more hours in
the day, but the truth is that life is
short. And, like Ferris said, if you
don't stop and look around once in
a while, you could miss it.

Song of the week: Esa Einai

. , --- ,

Transliterated: (tune can be found on YouTube)

Esa einai el heharim, me'ayin me'ayin yavo
ezri. Ezri me'im Hashem, Oseh shamayim
vaaretz. Hinei, lo yanun vlo yishan,
shomer Yisrael!

Translation:

Further commentary:

I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains:

from where shall my help come? My help
comes from God, who made heaven and
earth. Behold, He that keeps Israel neither
slumbers nor sleeps.

When there is a communal Tehillem reading,

this is usually one of the first psalms read.
Coming from Tehillim 121:1-2, it explains that
when all hope is lost, you can look up to
HaShem for protection. Malbim explains that
the dierence between HaShem and
everything else is that HaShem doesnt sleep,
but he is always protecting us.

Israel Update

This week in Jewish

History: Shevat 5
The "Lamed Hey" (35 [men])
Convoy was a mixed group of
soldiers and volunteers who,
during the War of
Independence, walked to deliver
supplies to the Gush Etzion
settlement which was placed
under siege by enemy forces
staring in December 1947. En
route they were attacked by Arab
locals and killed. Their actions
are revered as those of true
bravery for Am Yisrael.

Bnei Akiva word of

the week!

On Wednesday, a 22 year old Arab

stabbed 17 Jews, an act condoned by
Hamas. Please remember the victims in
your tfilot.

Mifkad noun \mef-cod\

: (1) The name for the
gathering we hold every
other shabbat afternoon
(2) An assembly at both the
beginning and end of Snif

Next week in Eilat is the ISRAMAN

Negev, a sports operation including the
Ironman triathlons, which consists of a
3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike ride, and a
full marathon. This year the number of
athletes is over 1,600, an increase of 400
from last year.

Joke of the week!

How does Moshe make his
tea?
HeBrews it!
