KVS is a Trendsetter in Education

KVS is not just a string of schools. Its an atmosphere of education.

Education has a great social importance especially in the modern, complex industrialized
societies. Philosophers of all periods, beginning with ancient stages, devoted to it a great deal of
attention.
The idea of encouraging the growth of Secondary Schools with a common syllabus and
medium of instruction was first approved in November, 1962, by the Government of India.
Consequently, Central Schools Organisation was started as a unit of the Ministry of Education,
now Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Govt. of India. In 1965, an autonomous
body, namely, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was registered as a Society under Societies
Registration Act XXI of 1860 which took over the task of opening and managing the Central
Schools, henceforth called Kendriya Vidyalayas. Over the years, the numbers of Kendriya
Vidyalayas are growing in numbers crossing the 1000 mark.
The Kendriya Vidyalayas have a four-fold mission:
(i) to cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government
employees;
(ii) to pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education;
(iii) to initiate and promote experimentation and innovations in education;
(iv) and to develop the spirit of national integration among children.
Apart from its four-fold mission, the 1093 Kendriya Vidyalayas all over India (and
abroad), with 11,21,012 students and 56,445 employees (as of 1 Oct 2012) perform numerous
important functions in shaping the society and building the nation through its optima and
trendsetting process of school education. With the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation
(CCE), the KVS has structured the school activities in such a manner as to ensure an all-round
development of the students instead of confining to mental development through lessons in the
class room. Adequate opportunities are provided to the students to take part in games and a
variety of other co-curricular activities. This helps the students develop a healthy spirit of
sportsmanship and companionship, which will enable them face the life with confidence. This
will also help them develop physically, aesthetically and morally. The Kendriya Vidyalayas help
the students to build strong characters, helping to inculcate different values and ideas, respect
others ideas, to live in harmony by being united amongst ourselves, respecting the diversities in
culture, religion, gender and thoughts. Some other functions of Kendriya Vidyalayas in building
strong, talented and aspirant individuals are listed below:

1. Complete the Socialisation Process and Formation of Social Personality: KVs try to build
personalities shaped or fashioned in ways that fit into the culture, accommodating diversities and
progressing together in society as a whole. In this way, KVs act as an integrative force in society
by communicating value that unites different sections of society, contributing to the integration,
to survive and develop.
2. Transmit the Cultural Heritage and Reformation of Attitudes: All societies maintain
themselves, by exploitation of a culture. Culture here refers to a set of beliefs and skills, art,
literature, philosophy, religion, music etc. that are not carried through the mechanism of heredity.
They must be learned. Such shared social heritages and shared culture is transmitted by the KVs.
KVs aim at the reformation of attitudes wrongly developed by children already. For various
reasons, the child may have absorbed a host of attitudes, beliefs and disbeliefs, loyalties and
prejudices, jealously and hatred etc. KVs functions at their reformation and see that unfounded
beliefs, illogical prejudices and unreasoned loyalties are removed from the child's mind and a
positive mindset is developed.
3. Provide Education for Higher-Educational Placement: Education has come to be today an
instrument of livelihood. It should enable the student to take out his livelihood. KVs prepare the
students for future higher-studies by stream-differentiation (Science, Commerce and Humanities)
and training the students in the respective streams theyve chosen for themselves. The highly
qualified and trained teachers of KVs provide essential knowledge to the students and make them
perform the necessary tasks, so that they can secure better grades and marks, and get better
opportunities for higher education.
4. Encourage the Spirit of Competition: The various school level, cluster level, regional level
and national level co-curricular and sports activities organized by the KVS instill a sense of
competitiveness and encourage the spirit of competition among students.
From the above points, we can conclude that KVS develops the all-round personality of students.
The great Indian educationalist and philosopher Swami Vivekananda has said,
Education is the manifestation of perfection already in Man. The great leader from USA,
John F. Kennedy has said, The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the
dissemination of truth. Such definitions of education are practically applied by the KVS in its
system. Building strong moral characters and propagating knowledge simultaneously is
successfully adopted by the KVS. Hence, KVS is a trendsetter in Education not just in India, but
in the whole world.
Im proud to be a KVian.
